Porsche to build cars in entirety outside Germany for first time.

Will this move by Porsche to move the Cayenne production out of Germany make the current Cayennes a bit more desirable? They must want to lower the cost by using slovak labor.

Well, from the article, Porsche higher ups thinks that so long as it is German engineering, the customers will continue paying the higher premium for a Cayenne.
Just a note to whoever Porsche/VW group higher up think we are stupid: Look at VWs made in Mexico. Do you think we Yanks think that putting "German engineering" will equate that as a quality product? I think you are killing the goose who is laying the golden eggs by trying to maximize the already high profits.

I'm not saying i agree or disagree with above posters...
The Touareg is built in Slovakia.
The Touareg is absolutely of high quality, based on recent first hand experience.
I had the "Executive" version and it was absolutely amazing in every aspect of ownership.
Strong, efficient, well designed, and super reliable.
Yes, Touaregs have a lot less options available compared to the Cayenne - i get that.
Doesn't make them any less 'quality' in the build though...
Further, i was always under the impression that the Volkswagen Touareg is built at the Volkswagen Bratislava Plant in Bratislava, Slovakia, alongside the Audi Q7 and the Porsche Cayenne. Yes, i get that here are styling, equipment, and technical differences between those models.
Is that just the basic framework then the different models go their separate ways for finishing?

For the Cayenne, the body comes from Slovakia. From there, there is a railroad system that carries them to Leizip for assembly by German workers. Leizip was originally built just for this purpose. Of course, it now also produces Panameras and the new Macan.
The following article explains the politics behind Porsche's actions (though it seems they decided to go completely cheap now):

I think the value of my 2012 made in Leipzig, Germany Porsche Cayenne just got a raise! I wonder if European Delivery will still have the Leipzig and Stuttgart options?
Talk about fixing something that's not broken!

I wouldn't really want to buy a new Ferrari made in Canada (or any other country other than Italy) either, but maybe that's just me.

I do think there is a certain amount of pride and legacy that's built into these cars... and that gets lost a bit when you start moving the birth place around. Quality might be there... but you're losing something intangible.

Sometimes places matter. When I looked at the BMW X5 and asked the dealer if I could get European Delivery, he said sure "We can ship it from North Carolina where it's made to Europe and you can pick it up there and after driving it around, we can ship it back". So without even driving the vehicle, I walked out cementing in my mind the purchase of the Porsche with pickup in Leipzig.

not trying to be a smart *** but bmw's usa plant is located in Spartanburg, south Carolina. they used to make all the Z and X5 cars there, now they only produce X3, X5, X6. the motors come pre-assembled from Germany and everything is just put together here.
Yes it was South Carolina. I had a friend who had picked up his BMW in Europe and my wife was hot on the idea of European Delivery so when we went over to the BMW just to do a little due diligence, I asked if we could get European delivery in conversation before driving the car and only then learned it wasn't made there. He was tongue in cheek telling me we "could" do that. When I realized it was made in US, I just told him I wasn't interested and we walked out.
