I just bought 2014 v6 plat edition, trying to change oil but the manual says to use porsche C30 or VW 504 approved 5w-30(mobil 1 ESP) for the cayenne v6. Though, my dealer only carries mobil 1 0W40 on v6 which are not 504 approved. I know it won't hurt my engine in the short term but should it ok to use non-vw504 0w-40 on my v6 cayenne engine?? Thanks in advance!
Think it should be fine. I think the oil differs in different areas depending on climate, and what octane gas is available in a specific country.

Yea i live in ny but i went two dealers and they all use non vw504 approved oils for my base cayenne....one didn't even use mobil1....don't understand why they don't follow the manufactures recommended oils for such a premium vehicles....but it seems like everyone uses different oils they prefer on their cayennes, just wanted to make sure i can ignore the vw504...
O by the way @fkim011 manual recommends 0w40 for every other cayennes except the base and the diesel. They recommend c30 or mobil1 5w30esp for the base and diesels...and no dealers follow that....wonder wht they use for diesels though...hmmm
No you can not, at least while your warranty is in effect. If something happened to your engine and they ask you to prove the OCIs were followed you'll be giving them an out if you aren't using the recommended oil certification (doesn't have to be Mobile1, but has to meet the spec).
If you take it to the dealer (not at their prices!) and they want to put something different in, that's on them if there is a failure. My local dealers all want to use a non approved oil in the diesels too.
There are certainly valid arguments about the frequency of changes and type restrictions being valid, but until my warranty runs out I'll stick with the documented info so they can't say boo.

If you want to keep your warranty valid, stick to the C30 spec oil. I get mine on a subscription basis through Amazon at $46 per case (of 6) delivered once every 4 months. That said, I seldom drive more than 750 miles/month. You may want more oil delivered more frequently, but it's still $46/case.

There are enough oils on this approved 504/507 list that makes one believe that any synthetic would work to the current standard. Go ahead and use the Mobil 1. http://microsites.audiusa.com/ngw/09..._1997-2012.pdf

Yea i will stick with the c30 thanks! That's a great oil list thanks! Wow i can't believe dealers would not use the right stuff and charge $375 for an oil change....i better find local independent shop. Geez..

Actually no. Mobil 1 SAE 0w-40 is vw 502/505 and porsche a40 which are recommended for except base and diesel according to my manual. The parts guy even told me it was 502/505 and i asked why they wouldnt use 504 for my v6, he had no idea why...lol..if we were to use mobil 1 i believe we only have one choice which is 5w30 esp porsche c30...which also requires for v6 and diesels from the manual...why don't they just follow the damn manual
Hmm confused now...i have the mobil1 0w40 bottle with me now and it only says vw 502/505 and porsche a40....i have bunch of these since i use these on my mercedes but damn i dont know what to follow...but one thing for sure i can use 5w30 esp. Haha
Yea but the problem is it's not me...it's the dealers putting whtever they want...im not sure this 0w40 non 504 approved oil they put in already in my v6 will be safe for my engine until my next flush.

Because I'm just that much of a PITA, I'd take it back and make them do it again at their expense with the correct oil. But it's not worth the pain if you don't enjoy jousting at windmills
The reality, however, is that it should be fine and in the worst case they've given you grounds to come after them outside of warranty should you have an engine failure due to "bad oil". If you're the paranoid type, send a sample off to get tested after it's changed.
Going forward I would recommend DIY or find an Indy that will use the correct stuff for you without an argument.
