Secondary bypass without telling the wife....
Secondary bypass without telling the wife....
So we're due to pick up our cayenne turbo 958 gen 2 in a few weeks.
My main concern is that it will be too quiet, so I'm thinking of installing a 2nd cat bypass.
Now the thing is, it will be the wife's car and she's against mods - I was thinking of just having it installed by the dealer before she picks up the car for the first time so she thinks that's how it sounds stock
Just how loud will it make the car? She will never open it up under full throttle
Also we have a newborn baby - is this wise to make this mod?
Thanks!

My wife & I both have 2011 Cayenne Turbos. Mine has the secondary bypass pipes and hers does not. A little background info. I have a 2015 Turbo on order that should be delivered the end of this month. The plan was I was giving mine to my son & getting the new one since I use mine as a DD so it has many more miles than hers. She splits time with her Bentley so neither get many miles. I had the dealer ready to install the GIAC tune & secondary cat bypass pipes before delivery. Somehow my wife decided she would take the new one & I would get hers. I guess if you are married you can understand. Getting back to your original question - she also said "And I don't want whatever you did to make your old one so noisy." So while I would agree with CTT-QTR that it is only a 3 or a 4, it is noticeable. That being said, if she has nothing to compare it to, I say "go for it."
Will your dealer do it? My dealer is very mod friendly but some are not & will use it as an excuse, if anything major would happen, to not cover it under warranty.

If its going to be your wife's car, AND you have a newborn, why bother?
Also, are you prepared for the consequences WHEN (not IF) she finds out?
Keep the peace, and spend that money on something nice for yourself ....my $0.02

Aside from the LOUD startup rumble, i think you'd be ok.
With the bypass in place, starting up the car in the garage will create a significant rumble than without.
IMO, most people located inside the house would likely think the initial sound is not normal.
Once it's warmed up and the rpm's drop to normal,
I don't think she would really notice without anything previous to compare to.
Tough call

I just installed mine this weekend so I have a fresh picture of exactly what it sounded like before and after.
yes, it makes it louder, especially when you first start up.
the rumble sounds kind of like a diesel truck if you're standing outside.
but inside, it's still very quiet.
it only bumps it maybe 20% louder.
but as far as hiding it from your wife, I wouldn't recommend it.
