I have a GTS, and thinking of upgrading my 20" OEM to 22" Vorsteiner rims with Continental Tires. There is also an option to buy custom OEM size 21" Vorsteiner for same price($3000). I never drove this SUV with 21", much more 22", so my question is how does the ride compare? If I go with 22" what is the best tire option?

I just ordered a set of 22" that will arrive next month. From what I have read from others is that if you have air suspension, you will notice very little between 21" and 22". I currently have 21". Also by going to 22", you will have more tire selection and for a cheaper price. Just something to consider.

 

It will definitely look cooler on 22s but it won't be comfortable that's for sure. I have 21s on my 2011 CTT and I literally feel all the bumps on the road even though I have air suspension. Personally, I'd go for 19s or 20s if I find cool looking ones.

 

I just finished a 1000 mile segment of my trip on 21". The ride was comfortable from CA up to British Columbia. Drove in the low setting and normal suspension. The ride quality is really subjective and depends on the quality of roads in your area.

 

You're absolutely right.

 

Doesn't ride much rougher than my stockers. I'm on standard suspension and set the tire pressure to match the profile in PCM for comfort/partly loaded for 21 inch summer tires.

Wheels are 22x9.5 ET50 square 285/35/22 tire.

 

The ride difference is definitely noticeable and it does ride a bit firmer but in no ways is it punishing.

 

Did you also lower your CTT with a lowering module?

 

I did not. It is stock air suspension on low setting.

 

Ride isn't that different for me, but the roads I travel on are fairly smooth. Not sure how the roads are in NJ. Definitely looks better though. Steel suspension here... but on H&R, not OEM.

Stick with 20" rims and perhaps go with a little bigger tire.
IMO... 22" rims on the Cayenne make it look like a high riding station wagon because the tire sidewalls are so thin.

 

Sidewall...sidewall...sidewall - regardless of the tire make sure you have enough sidewall! By having less tire to work with, you will notice a difference especially going form 20 inch wheels to 22 inch wheels. Also, road condition plays a huge factor in ride quality that was mentioned earlier.
