Phone can it be retrofitted?

Bought a used 2012 Cayenne diesel, it has all the buttons in the steering wheel and panel for the phone.
But is not active.
Asked the previous owner and he said he didnt buy the option.

Is this a software I need to buy or will it be impossible to make it work.

There is a phone option where you can stick a GSM card in the slot on the PCM and there is the bluetooth option that will pair with your phone.

The first is kinda stupid in my opinion (a phone that only works when you are in the car? Its not the 80s any more).

If you have the PCM (navigation), then you have bluetooth and can pair with your phone. If not, then you need a new head unit.

I do not know if enabling the GSM slot is just a software change or not. I assume it is, but getting a dealer to enable such things seems to be hit or miss.

yes you can add both phone an bluetooth options easily.

no need to change the unit.

I personaly added the bluetooth on mine, porsche dealer did it.
works fine but you do not have access to the phone book from the stearing wheel only from the pcm.

bests

Could you please elaborate more on that. I have bluetooth but it just works for music. How to let the dealer add the phone function. Whats involved? just a pcm reprogram?

If You car equipped non basic cdr radio (if you have BT a2DP connection already))

For BT in HFP mode you need activate feature with code and get roof console with microphone.

If you would like use sim card slot or SAP with handy - have to add phone module inside PCM unit.

add you can get all you need without dealer, but you need PIWIS 2 Tester to input codes and make codings.

I have the PCM. By your description it should be easy. If you have a DIY that would be awesome . Do you have the part number for the roof console with microphone? Thank you, and sorry for all the questions.

I am also interested as I thought on the 958 the codes were encrypted and only Porsche AG can provide the code to activate functionalities.

Roof console is not obliged to be changed. depends on your model. some have the mics eaven without the phone features, some do not.

Price is not high if you go to a porsche dealer. if the roof console has to be changed, it's like 100 euros more than if you had the option from factory, but if you do not need the roof console to be changed, it's like half the price of the factory option.

Plus with your car's chassis number the Porsche dealer can order eveything without eaven seeing the car and you just go to the dealer for the install.

Not only dealer can provide codes, but you still need Piwis2 to activate features.

I know only one way to get roof console with microphone for free - If this part was replaced during service action - Alarm triggering by interior sensor. Else you need replace console OR add any suitable mic, like from audi,or 957 cayenne inside present console. I know a couple of lazy dudes who left the microphone under center dashboard mesh, over PCM))

If you car not BT ready from factory - not mic inside. If you can combare two consoles - you will get experience, you can see round reflecting microphone housing about 1 cm diameter thru black cloth in left grille. (or may be right side for RHD)))

Double check variant and price of console before ordering. It s costs much more 100 Euros.
