Rotors upgrade /upsize question on GTS

Hi guys,

I am running 21s and the brake disc could fill up abit more.

Will upgrading the size of the disc improve anything?

Also, they are solid disc and was wondering if changing to slotted, crossed drilled is recommended?

If anyone has recommendation to a particular model or brand will also very much be appreciated

The only thing drilled rotors does, for the most part, is for appeal; modern compounds of brake pads eliminates the gassing problem which the slots and holes help evacuate.

If you have to have "the look", I would lean towards slotted as it compromises the structural integrity of the rotors less than drilling (which I have seen develop cracks around the holes).

In terms of upgrading the rotor/brake pad size, you have more friction but you have greater rotational inertia as well.

Disclaimer: I have not looked at empirical evidence to back up my assertions of the drill/slot issue, which I have learned though some mechanics who do SAE formula racing. I recommend you look up some hard numbers yourself instead of just taking my word or somebody else's word on it, especially if you're going to probably be spending a bit more than a couple thousand for a new brake set.

to get bigger rotors, you will need new mounting brackets to locate the caliper farther out. I know nothing of their availability though.

I'd highly recommend not upsizing rotors by themselves - if you really wanted to fill up the wheels with larger brakes, i'd recommend going with something like the Brembo Gran Turismo Big Brake Kit. They do run just shy of $5,000 for a pair however - but they'll fill that void in your 21's really nicely!

why? the stock calipers are plenty large and will perform just as well as the GT kit.

also to note, I have tracked my diesel and the smaller rotors do just fine performance wise with no fade after repeated hard laps at VIR.

op said it already, for looks. I changed my stock rear caliper and rotors from my w221 S-class to AMG setup because they looked silly small. my base Cayenne is not too bad in my opinion. it probably will cost too much for this project to be viable.

nice, I just coated a set of 8piston/4piston AMG calipers for a customer who was doing a similar upgrade this week.
