Cayenne vs Audi SQ5?
Cayenne vs Audi SQ5?
I know this might be a bit of an odd comparison in some ways, but I find myself with this dilemma. I can purchase a new loaded SQ5 which did impress me with its responsiveness and interior quality combined with a ton of the latest bells and whistles or a used well equipped 2012 Cayenne Turbo with 40 000 miles on it for about 10K more.
Brand new vs. used
Smaller vs. larger and more luxurious
For context, I always thought a Cayenne (either and S or Turbo) would be my next vehicle, am a "Porsche guy" having owned a couple 911s for years, and have an Acura MDX (that I am quite happy with) to use as a family hauler (four kids), so this SUV would be primarily for me to zip around in back and forth to work or when my wife and I are heading out just the two of us.
I know this would likely generate a biased response in this forum but I guess I am looking for some opinions and guidance from people that have owned the CT or that might be familiar with both.
Thanks in advance

I think the fact you are only hauling yourself and the wife it makes sense to go with the smaller SQ5, based on its new, cheaper, and has all the bells Md whistles you might want or need. If the MDX were to go, then it wouldn't really be a choice.
I would go with the new car (even though I like the Cayenne more). But keep in mind that the Q5 is about to be completely redesigned (possibly in 2016).
Also, have you considered a Macan? It should be similar in price and performance to the SQ5 (in fact the Macan is based on the Q5 architecture).

both base msrp's are similar, but all audi S comes with a lot of things standard that Porsche makes you buy. once you equally option the macan, it will be significantly higher in price.
MikeL is bang on. The well optioned Macan is about 10K more than an SQ. I have driven both and would say the difference is worth it, however availability on the Macan is very sparse.
I was worried the smaller SUVs would be too small for my larger frame so after driving both back to back I did purchase the Cayenne. The luxurious interior, space Nd performance were too much to pass up. I think I'll be very happy.
Thanks guys

I think you made the right choice.
I'm unopposed to all of these CUVs; some of them are really cool. In my mind, though, they are an answer to a different set of problems than an SUV is. The guy buying an SQ5 is probably cross-shopping an S4, but something makes him want a little more clearance and the advantage of a liftgate.
The guy buying the Cayenne or X5 might otherwise want a Tahoe or Range Rover, because he needs a little space along with that clearance - but the Cayenne amps up the driveability factor more than it restricts the utility factor so it's a more entertaining choice.
Enjoy!

macan only beats SQ5 with 15-20k of options IMHO. the base macan isn't worth it in my opinion. Until you get into 75-80K its SQ5. only go for pcar if you want the status.
