How to install an Aftermarket Amp with PCM 3

Hi Guys I just bought a Cayenne S 2010

I would like to add a subwoofer and amp to the PCM 3.

What is the best way.

Is it a calendar year 2010 or model year 2010? Sorry, I recently learned that some (all?) EU countries go by the build year rather than the MY that we talk about here in the states so I don't want to make assumptions about your country. The first is a 958 while the second is a 957.

If you have a 958 I unfortunately can't help. I'd like to know, but while I've seen a few posts about people upgrading/replacing the stereo I haven't seen a follow up showing what or how it was done.

If you have a 957 I still can't help much, but I can at least point you to the 955/957 forum next door who should be able to help.

HI thanks yes its a 958.

Somebody suggested that i tap the rear speaks with a converter that will change the feed to a RCA feed.

Dose anybody know if the current amp uses a fiber signal?

Anybody have a wire diagram for the amp?

You can always intercept the signal at the point where it hits the speakers, convert that into a line-level signal, and feed it into an amp - or use an amp that accepts speaker-level connections. Then send the signal from your new amp to some new speakers and a sub.

But...

If you do that, your amp is going to make the same sound you had before, only louder and maybe even slightly degraded having gone through another layer of signal processing. This is by far the easiest, but also by far the least effective, way of adding aftermarket gear to a stereo.

It's sort of like putting on a nice new shirt, but without taking off your old dirty shirt first.

Making matters worse, very few of these modern OEM head units have regular old RCA outputs. Some of them have proprietary line-level outputs using bizarre wiring harness configurations, others might be sending information through the audio system other than the music, like warning chimes and in some cases (not Porsche, yet) synthesized engine noise. You start disconnecting that stuff and your car computer starts throwing codes, then you have to take it in anyway.

It all points to taking the car by a qualified car audio installer first, at least for an opinion.

Hi Will,Thanks

That what is was thinking, my amp has a high level input.

I was hoping that there was an of the shelf converter that could tap into the amp signal.

Or if I could use the Fibre from PCM and still have the wired digital going to the ASK amp for the speakers.

Where is the amp and how do I get access to it?

Sadly, I don't know - I've never worked on a Cayenne.

Location of amp is rear passenger side of trunk.

I hope the

se pics are help to figure out amp location.

this is amp. non bose. base + PCM

Unfortunately, I Can't remember wiring... but right side of RED/GREY might be 12V/gnd... there were 6 wires for front, 4 wires was for rears

Hi Thanks for the pics.

I have the Pinouts will post later...

How is the sound?
Did you tap the speaker in the rear?

I think the Amp uses an analogue signal as they have 4 inputs (+/-) Rear x 2 front x 2.

Anybody know how to check if it is?

Amps to speaker has 7 sets(+/-) for base audio system.

1 set goes middle front (between driver and passenger)
2 sets goes to LF/RF for tweeter and mid subs
2 sets goest to LF/RF for midrange
2 sets goest to LR/RR for tweeter and mid subs.

so that's why total 7 sets.

if you wanna hook up sub, you need H/L converter, amp, and sub.

in my case, I just hooked up infinity basslink - digital inputs... (skipped H/L converter and amp)

sound is not that great...(sounds doesn't playing together...I fills like cayenne sound and sub sound saying "I'm better! Who care!?"....)

My original plan was put at least 2 amps in trunk....

but i couldn't reassbly rear door panel (can't reassemble side window curtain)...

so that's why I just put subs instead of changing whole system...

Ok so here is an update:

The Black cable that is connected to the ASK amp is the RCA signal, there is also a Wakeup 12v.

I will be tapping the rear speakers to feed to my amp.

There was a free 150a slot on the battery distributor, so this will be for the Amp power.
I have an 80a fuse just after the 150a.

I also found a perfect spot to mount the amp just under the boot cover.

Pics to follow.

Yo, I have PCM too and I think the audio is trash. I believe the speakers are fine but the amp sucks. The speakers might suck too but IDK. If what you're doing turns out well, I might mod my audio system too. Thanks for being brave.

How did it work out? Pics and pin out confirmations would be much appreciated.

Unfortunately, I don't have diagram now. but if your system only have PCM /w.o. bose or burmaster, changing audio is not that hard.

PCM headunit send to two analog +/- to amp(on trunk) (no bose/burmaster system only). I just change those analog to RCA, then hook up wires same as pics.
In ma case, I put amp and crossover(front doors) in trunk under spare tire. but current amp doesn't have enough rms amp.. so I'm going to replace it Alpine pdx-v9 on next week. at that time, I'm going to take more photos for wiring for you.

=)

power cable comes from under driver side

original amp is on rear passenger side wheels. after market amp locate under spare tire

thank you for posting the pics very helpful. Yes i have just PCM on a '13 CD. Two questions:

1. which wires do you tap into? I have a self powered sub that takes high level inputs, so I plan to just tap two wires and lead it into the self powered sub. I can't decide between i)the rear most speakers or ii) the front subwoofers to tap.

My logic is the rears are likely that the PCM gives it a full frequency signal. Or is it might be best to tap the front subwoofers, so that it most closely matches the frequencies that of the subwoofer?
2. I assume you are tapping them on the output side - please confirm
3. Do you have any instructions or helpful hints as how to get the right trunk side panel off?

Thanks much for your help!

Hello, I just bought myself a 2015 cayenne 958 facelift. As far as I understand I have the PCM basic system (No BOSE), and it sucks. I want to change out the speakers, does anyone know if the analogue signals are sent out from the stock amplifier without cross-over (so full range)? Are there built in passive filters for the spekers in the front doors, or is the cross-over done by the amp somehow?

Just trying to figure out what kind of speakers / filters I need to get.
