Well now that we have both a 2014 GTS (V8) and a 2016 GTS (V6TT), I think its a good time to compare the two.

On face value, the new tech in the 2016 GTS is well welcomed, the surround view cameras does make parking a breeze, and its very well executed. The LED lights are definitely an upgrade, but for some reason 2 days ago I got a message saying "PDLS+ System Fault, Service required", so currently the 2016 is at the dealership and they are trying to figure out why this fault has popped up.

I can really say I do not like the sound, yes its faster, but it sounds subdued. I used to daily drive my V8, and I miss the noise the most. I'm sure Porsche will find a way to make these things sound great, but for now its really disappointing. It doesn't matter what you do, leave it in Sports + with the exhaust open or whatever, its a damn let down.

The positive is the engine is good, I was never a fan of turbos, but now I guess its the new direction every automaker is heading into. Thank God the V12's are left alone, we have an FF on order and I'm so happy its been left alone.

The 2016 GTS builds boost really quick, and punches through the gears. Massive difference compared to the NA V8. I've attached a video below of a short sprint.

One major thing I noticed, oil temps in the V6 TT really fluctuate, it builds heat quick once you're on it. Water temps are held constantly at 90c, but oil temps really move from around 90c to 110c.

Let me know if anyone has any questions, Ill be happy to answer them.

Thaks for the info and video.

I've notice what I think is a difference in the options on the 2016 regarding the Premium Package (and PP Plus) as they now seem to offer them. I don't see it offered on the 2011-2014 Cayenne GTS's on the Porsche used car page. Am I missing it?

Can you (anyone) confirm if that's true and which options were included in the earlier and later CGTS's relating to the Premium Package (and Plus) options ? It seems the new PP options on the 2016's were individual options on the 2011-13 cars.

Thanks.

I can't really comment on the packages as I picked up my 958.1 GTS preowned, and my 958.2 GTS was off the showroom floor. As far as I know the packages are more a US thing, over here everythings a stand alone option.

Now that I've had both vehicles for a while, I've come to the conclusion the 958.2 GTS has to go.. There may be a 958.2 Turbo S thats going to come in as a trade, and have put my name down for that..

The V6 is a massive disappointment for me, yes the increased power and torque is great, but I just do not like the engine sound, while I do like the power, I guess I'm finding something missing in this vehicle and would rather sell the damn thing than resent it while it just sits there depreciating.

In all honesty its a good vehicle. Its smooth, comfortable, and the suspension refinements they did really do make a difference. But if you are coming from the V8, you'll find something lacking. The V8 is like a Paneri (Analogue watch), and the V6TT is like one of those new Apple watch (Best analogy I could think off after being awake for the past 48 hours). Each has its own pros and cons, and each has their own person that its suited for.

Ill leave you guys with a picture for now

How about exhaust? I got the bypass pipes and it improved the sound a lot. A muffler at this point would put it over the top.

I don't know anyone who is making exhausts for the 958.2 yet. I'm sure there will be many in the future, but I cant be bothered to wait. Above that, our dealership here is extremely strict when it comes to modifications and the warranty.. Even on my 958.1 GTS, I have the bypass pipes, but HAVE to set everything back to stock every single time it goes in. I cannot risk the warranty, I've had a Cayenne without the warranty and I swore to my wallet that it will never happen again. Plus I love the way I can beat on my 958.1 GTS endlessly all day long, and should anything go wrong (Nothing ever happened till now knock on wood), I have the backing of a Porsche warranty..

A buddy loaned me his 958.2 Turbo today, and yeah I'm pretty much sold on that, can't imagine the difference with the Turbo S.. The power is basically overkill. I have a solid feeling that paired with the right driver, on a track a lot of people are going to be embarrassed by this new breed of SUV's. The suspension refinements have been carried over, but they are definitely not muted anymore!

Now the hard part, sell the 958.2 GTS through a private sale, or take a beating trading it in for a Turbo/Turbo S.. I've decided even if the dealership doesn't get the Turbo S in, I'll put down an order with the specs I want regardless..

I just got a new 2016 GTS TT (958.2). Pretty happy with the car; great performance, solid modes for sport, sport plus, etc.

If the V8 version, was still available, I would have rather had that. Same with a manual-tranny version. But they aren't available, so I went with this.

I did drive other options, including a BMW X6M, and found the Cayenne GTS to be the best blend of luxury and performance. The X6M is a very fast car, with awesome performance, but it's basically an M5 that looks like a jellybean. It's harsh and doesn't have the luxury and calmness of the Cayenne. And it didn't look as good as the Cayenne GTS.

The GTS TT is a good vehicle at a much lower price point than a Cayenne Turbo or Turbo S... The Turbo S I saw in the showroom was $208K... I usually keep my cars for 2-3 years; taking a $100K+ hit on a Turbo S in 3 years would have been tough. So, for me, the GTS worked financially as well.

Its a great vehicle no doubt there, as a daily driver, the new V6TT is actually better than the V8, its got great torque down low, and they've tweaked the suspension to make it more comfortable.

These aren't my first Cayennes, my first car was a first generation Cayenne Turbo, and we kept that for ages, I then moved to a second generation Cayenne S, kept that for a while, but not as long as the turbo. I've had the previous generation X5M too, never liked it, felt it was too harsh for a daily driver. Haven't tried the new one, but I hear its a lot more sorted compared to the previous generation.

Yes I agree on the price point, thats why I am really hoping they get that Turbo S in as the owner is looking to trade it for something else, that way I don't take the major depreciation hit. Regardless I've pretty much made up my mind that I want a Cayenne Turbo S. I generally keep my vehicles for ages, and I am extremely OCD when it comes to them being serviced regularly.

I've looked at the Panamera, but it just doesn't do it for me, especially since I am the kind of person who uses these things as they are meant for, I go offroad a lot, and my Cayenne preforms just fine for what I do.

In reality, it doesn't matter if you have the V8 or the V6TT, if you know what you're doing, these are EXTREMELY formidable vehicles..

Just the Targe 4S would do it for me . I wouldn't be surprised to hear massive HP gains with these new turbo motors once the tuners get everything unlocked. I would bet 50Hp could be easily achieved with a tune and an intake.

How is the transition from a 997 to a Cayenne, do you miss it at times? I only ask because I have had friends who drive 997/991's and much prefer the Macan to the Cayenne. Personally, while I LOVE the transmission and chassis dynamics in the Macan, it doesn't suit my lifestyle (Need space for big dog and proper offroad capability).

i didn't care for the macan turbo..sure it was a little quicker but its just a lot less car if you know what i mean.

Of course I miss my cab but I am enjoying the GTS very much. With a 9 and 6 year old I needed a bigger ride and the car i bought new in 2010 was now just about 6 yrs old and out of the extended warranty I purchased in 4k more miles.

The GTS sounds great with Cat bypass..Like I said, another 50 hp or so would be great. And I agree, I was a little surprised the Cayenne was still using the Tiptronic transmission but surprisingly it's pretty good, especially for an SUV!

Oh that transmission, watch the video in the first post on this page, it reminds me a little of the 1st gen PDK, just the way it snaps through changes, never experienced a 'traditional automatic' this crisp and precise.

They've definitely made some changes, I feel a difference between my V8 GTS and my V6 GTS, the transmission in the newer one is MUCH smoother, and I think its a little faster (Could be placebo effect).. You really feel the changes in the V8, its not as refined as the V6..

I've yet to hear the bypass pipes in person, I don't think anyone over here has them on at the moment.. Theres a Porsche Club meet in a few days, Ill inquire around and see if anyone has them on and if they'll let me sneak a drive

Info the pipes on my 16 GTS. It makes a great difference. Regular mode is gives it a deeper growl. In valve open mode it's as loud or louder than the video uploaded here.

Wow as loud as that. Thats my V8 GTS, everything stock just came out of service 2 weeks ago. Haven't had the time to get the bypass pipes installed on it yet. With those its obnoxiously loud, I love it..

If you could upload a video it'd be great.. I don't usually go by manufacturer videos for obvious reasons, I would really appreciate it if you could get a video up..
