958.2 Tiptronic- huge improvement

So ive been enjoying my Porsche 958.1 for the past 8 months now and its really become dear to me. Like every car (maybe not the 911-R), it has room for improvement. One specific area is the Tiptronic transmission. Its decent for what most Cayenne drivers will do with the car but it suffers from one major flaw and that has become grossly apparent after driving a 958.2. The car hates 2nd gear but you need 2nd gear to do anything sporty out of a turn. Its sad how pathetic it downshifts or attempts to downshift into 2nd.

I had a 2016 loner Cayenne V6 a couple weeks ago. The combination of the amazing steering wheel and transmission blew my mind. Its still the 8 speed transmission but it blips on downshifts and actually goes into 2nd gear with great satisfaction. I was floored.

My question is can the 958.1 be reprogrammed to act like the 958.2? This is completely game changing for the car. Does anyone know who i can contact for such information. The dealer obviously was no help but would have loved to take mine in on a trade in.

You may want to get yours checked by the dealer,

On my 958.1 GTS, going from 2 - 3 or 3 - 2 is bang on spot. Shifts are extremely quick and precise.

I do notice a difference on my 958.2 GTS, the shifts are less violent but more accurate if that makes sense, but I think that has to do with the character of the V6 too. On my V8 its raw, on my V6 its refined..

Nothing about 3-2 in mine is snappy. So theres a video of the 2013 GTS from Fabspeed. This is what lead me to believe 3-2 can't be as bad as it is in my car. It feels like a bad 2-1 in a manual. Before I bother with the dealer the question that comes to mind is, is the GTS programmed differently? Is this another Porsche "we changed the calibration and now it's awesome so buy it" bs? That would be unfortunate.

Anyone else experience something similar in their S?

Give a listen as he turns around.

I've not driven the 958 S so I can't really tell you how its supposed to be,

But the GTS does have a shorter final drive ratio, so I would guess Porsche must have done some calibration changes to the transmission too.

What version of PCM software is on the 958.1? I noticed a definite improvement in shift quality when mine was updated (free under a recall..) a few weeks ago. I attributed that to both the software, and perhaps the "learned" memory was erased.

BTW - the "Fabspeed" video - exhaust sounds dreadful to me. Sounds like the coffee-can exhaust on a Japanese "tuner" car. Mebbe it's just the recording, but that certainly wouldn't make me think about shelling out $$ for the cat-bypass.

Thanks for taking those videos. Its hard to tell from the way you downshift into 2nd and then gas it. But my 2-3-4 is the same if not similar. Ill post a video when i can

My PCM was just updated by the dealer to V2.47. It was supposed to resolve SAT radio favorites from disappearing but i never noticed that or anything else different.

I agree that the bypass pipes on the GTS with the PSE does not sound good. My main reason for going fabspeed. The akrapovic exhausts are even worse.
