2012 PCM & NAV update question

I have a 2012 CTT.
The service writer at the dealership stated that we are reaching the end of the support from Porsche for the NAV and PCM versions for the 958.1
Can anyone verify if this is accurate?
Do we know the final version specific numbers?
or are can we expect more?
Thanks much

I have a 2011 Cayenne S Hybrid and I want to upgrade my GPS maps. Will this help me as well? If so, will I be able do it on my own?

I kind of doubt it. It says DVD - and on the 958 cars the database is downloaded via a thumb drive I believe.. and needs a PIWIS to enter the enabling key.

correct. does not matter where you get codes from. you need piwis first of all. then all features you will get.

I had the dealer upgrade the NAV Maps on my 2012 S. They gave me a DVD after. Unfortunately my S is at my local Indie shop getting the valve lift solenoid replaced and a new battery. When I get the vehicle back I can post the service write up and the description on the NAV DVD.

Can you use a Durametric to enter the enabling key?

I have a 2011. How do I go about updating my map? It is really out of date here when I drive through the city (Pittsburgh). Let me know. Thanks.

The key was not with the DVD unlike a Microsoft disc. Must be top secret Porsche keeps.

Quickster,

I'm curious what the PCM update did for you. Was it just the updated maps, or did it install any new functionality or graphics as well? I did a PCM update on my 2010 911 4S Cab last year and got great map updates (which were 6 years out of date) but not much else. I'd like to do a PCM update on my 2012 Cayenne S as well, but I'd be interested to hear your thoughts on what it installed.

TIA for your thoughts on the install

The P/N for the update was P958-044-904-51 Software Update PCM. $327.53 installed. I remember they grumbled a bit because they charged me less for some reason but stood by their quote to me.

The disc states PCM 3.1 Multimedia Update Disc 04/2015

I can't say there were readily visible updates nor enhancements. Some of the maps in my local area were more detailed. I just updated my 2015 Ram 2500 Laramie 8.4 NAV and there are visible menu changes and functional feature adds.

Looking at the disc now there is a key similar to MS Windows on the disc inside cover. Interesting that inside the cover it states "This Licence Key is part of the workshop equipment and not for customer use. Do not hand over to the customer". I suppose I was not to receive this "key".

It is interesting that Porsche want $300 plus, my Jeep Commander Limited wants $149 every two years, and the 2015 Ram Laramie is free from FCA for NAV and PCM equivalent functional updates.

That's the list price currently for the update - not including installation (there are dealers on line selling it discounted to around $275 - but you still have to visit a dealer to enter the license code). Most dealers charge for the installation - at least 1 hour labor. Apparently the maps have to load to the PCM hard drive, then be enabled with the magic code (license key) from Porsche - which according to what I've heard can only be entered using a PIWIS. I don't know of any aftermarket code reading tools that offer that capability.

Certainly would be simpler if the customer could enter using the PCM itself - but I guess the idea is - the PIWIS communicates back to Porsche International World-Wide Lair of Headquarters - that the code has been used and it can't be reused by someone else.

Big brother is watching..
