08 turbo

Hi, Looking at buying an 08 turbo with 82k from a nicer dealer in Chi who sells new Lotus and all ranges of vehicles. Is there anything I should be looking out for with these vehicles? I had read about cylinder scoring in these engines in cold weather places (I live in Mpls) any truth to this? Could a Chi Porsche dealer test for this if I paid to have it done before buying? The vehicle in the pictures looks to be in damn near perfect condition (but I know what they paid for it at manheim auction) I just want to get things checked out and not have any surprises. Thank you in advance.

+1 08 Turbo

Do you know of any shops you trust in Chi town? I have purchased most of my cars out of state and I usually find a shop near by the seller that seems trustworthy. its not a fix all but it would definitely help, i'll have them throw it on a lift so I can look underneath as well.

If you search on this forum you will find a lot of things that you can look for. I know a few items to look at are the driveshaft and coolant pipe issues. However I believe they fixed quite a few of those issues from the 955 to the upgraded 957 (08-10).

I'm in the camp that you have a better chance of winning the lotto than getting scored cylinders on a Cayenne Turbo. Yes, it is true that the Cayenne S (non turbo) has a high probability of getting scored cylinders. If you get a well maintained bone stock Cayenne Turbo you should be ok. The reason I say "bone stock" is some of the modified cars can have aggressively rich tunes that could "wash out" the cylinders and cause scoring.

The best advise I can recommend is find a car with a good service history, low number of owners, and appears to have been well cared for. When you get a PPI see if they can tell if the water pump and cardan shaft have been replaced. If not, I wouldn't be surprised if these parts failed shortly after purchase. Also keep in mind that the plastic coolant "T's" on the back of the engine will fail and it's best to replace them proactively than reactively. You can replace the plastic T's with metal T's to make the repair last the life of the vehicle.

Overall these cars are pretty reliable once you iron out the "bugs". I have had mine for a few years now it's one heck of a drive. Happy hunting!

I pulled the trigger on it. Thank you for the advise! Was a little disappointed until I randomly turned the PSM button off. Wow, night and day difference, this tank is fun! I had my local dealer (I've become friends with the service manager prior to buying, he's my age and fun to talk to) do an inspection and everything checked out great, but they are replacing a hose with the chassis suspension which was leaking today. This is my first black vehicle, what do people do to "help" keep it clean?!?! It's already driving me nuts after 3 days and dust at my workplace via construction and concrete recycling company next door. Looking at wrapping to avoid that. (Friend can wrap it for his cost for wrap and labor for free or minimal, less $1k)

Wrap it. It's impossible to keep black clean.

+1 on the the wrap! Thats a great deal! I would wrap my car just to do it for that price. I've been quoted just to wrap my exterior silver trim pieces to black will cost me $700.

By chance did you buy it from Mancuso Motorsports?

I did and not for the price they had it listed for, haha! I have access to manhiem, so I knew what they paid for it at auction. Already have to replace the starter and fix a few things.

Ahh nice. Yeah my wife and I picked up an 08 CTT from them in February with 43,000 miles. It has been good so far.

I've had nothing but problems with my purchase. I made the huge mistake of buying without test driving. Already had to replace a suspension hose, starter, exhaust holders (super annoying rattle at 2800) and now my suspension compressor went out. The oem cost is in the $3k range where I found a used one with lifetime warranty for $350. Anyone else had these problems? Anyone got a aux to work for radio? My service friend at dealer mentioned how Porsche is always behind in the electronics world... Has anyone run the Continental extemecontact DWS tires as they are only brand I've found who makes a all-season tire?

Damn that sucks. We test drove ours; it had some things prior to purchase that needed fixing. But we made sure all of that was either fixed or purchased for the car before buying.

I installed an AUX back in April, works good. Here's what I used:
ISimple - I did not hook up the USB ISimple - I did not hook up the USB

Antenna Adapter Antenna Adapter

Good luck

Nice tire - not as "sharp" as UHP summer tires will be - a somewhat softer sidewall allows for a bit more lurch in hard cornering, but makes up for it with a greatly improved ride quality. They also last forever, and are decent in snow.

BTDT - wish I'd gotten them for my CTT.. (got Nokia UHP, and the jury is still out on them - a defective one is being replaced tomorrow AM.. hey, I gotta go to bed!)

Are these where your phone produces an FM signal that your radio picks up?

Yes and no. Yes because it uses your FM but no because basically the module locks out that certain FM frequency. We stream spotify from our phone and it's crystal clear. The box comes with two frequencies you can choose from. It was the cheapest (there are cheaper versions of this brand) option I could find while maintaining the stock headunit. Figuring you don't need steering wheel controls, controls on your headunit (minus volume) and charging capabilities (could use the USB hub that comes with the one I purchased). We just wanted a simple aux jack.
