958 CTT Cleaning intercoolers and radiator

So my OCD kicked in this weekend and was going to restore the black trim on the grill.
after removing the bumper it evolved into cleaning the radiator and intercoolers. (This was normal every 3-4 years on my 996)
This then evolved into removing all of the bugs and repainting the intercoolers and radiators.

My question is should I remove the intercoolers and clean them on the inside too? Seen others online mention pouring acetone inside them the air drying.

I have 160,000 miles on the 2011 CTT.

test area with black trim paint from Detail King

I noticed about an inch of dirt collected on the bottom of the bumper.
No mud or dirt underneath the beast guessing the mud was kicked up as tire spray through the intercoller slots

Small family of birds living here?

Flushed the Intercoolers from behind full of dirt.

Darth Vader???
Any idea what the tiny mirror is for next to the adaptive cruise control sensor it was covered in road film. Would like to black it out.

Being an OCD kinda guy I wish you hadn't shown this. You KNOW what I'll be forced into doing..

As far as the mirror - it may be an alignment target for the sensor. There is a rather elaborate alignment routine required if the sensor is damaged or replaced.

Hey Don at least this wasn't posted in the dead of winter. :-)

Should I be concerned about the oil in the hose? one side bone dry.

So I found a few ounces of oil on the driver side at the inlet to the I/C

Oil sweating on the outlet of the I/C to the intake of the engine.

top of the I/C looked good

Bottom of the I/C also clean sprayed with parts cleaner

Any idea if the shut of valve would cause the oil pooling in the hose?

Not sure if this shut of valve hose should be kinked like this.

Wow! A for Affort dude.

I've done this on my prior 997TT. Thought about doing this on my 958tt.

You should use "WipeNew" on the plastic parts. It works!

elite1 Thanks for the tip,I agree this procedure is a must for 996's and 997's

After doing some research thinking about replacing both diverter valves.
I'll pull the suspect one out tomorrow and inspect.

Jay - I think the oil on the drivers side is pretty much "normal".. the 955/957 models do much worse than that. It's from the PVC system.

I'd be suspicious of the kink in the line going to the diverter valve.. wonder if this is causing any decrease in boost..?

BTW - if your turbo is using more than a quart of oil in 10,000 miles you might check to see if the service campaign was ever done for the crankcase oil separator located in the drivers side valve cover. The former owner of mine had it done.. it took the engine from a quart every 600 miles or so - to a quart between changes.

Don- Thanks for the information on the oil and ACC mirror, puts my mind at ease.

I ordered 2 replacements this morning figured it couldn't hurt and considering the amount of oil sweat around the DV, the diaphragm may be compromised or saturated.
I plan on correcting the kink in the tube with an elbow or Abrasion-Resistant Sleeving.

I have 160K on the ODO, it's cheap insurance and may avoid a check engine light down the road.
The engine was replaced back in 2015 @121K. The AOS was done at 88K but irrelevant as the engine is almost new.
The AOS replacement confirms your oil consumption comment, prior to the AOS replacement it was 1 quart every 1000 miles.
Found another CTT owner with oil in the hose however those models are dry sump.

I posted my service records in the CTT reliability thread

So the DV's and charge pipe seals arrived form the dealer last week.
ECS Tuning had DV's for $38.00. so I ordered them, then went on back ordered for 10 days so I canceled the order and got them from Gaudin in LV.

ECS now has them for $50.00??? more than the dealer.

Everything cleaned and reassembled now.

Also cleaned the ACC sensor, and changed the coolant.

After picking out 100's of bees and pebbles

Audi or Bosch 710P

IC's ready for install

Fixed kink in tube

throttle body as found not sure when it was cleaned last but looks good for not being touched for 33K

Pitted stock and new LED's

Freaking tree fell and trapped (2) cars in the garage
