Exclamation Ride quality feedback on 22" wheels such as Rinspeed

Hey guys,

I just took delivery of a 2012 Cayenne V6, and am thinking of putting these Replica Rinspeed 22" on instead of the OEM 18s:

http://i206.photobucket.com/albums/b...rin-1024-3.jpg

My major concern is to what extent the ride quality will suffer compare to the OEM 18s. It's a family car with kid(s) sitting in car seat at the back and wife driving most of times. Is it really noticeable on even semi-bumpy roads? Would really appreciate any feedback if you have made similar switch.

Thanks a lot guys!

The ride quality will suffer severely going from 18" to 22". I actually went from 18 to 20 and noticed a difference. I can only imagine what's in store for you if you decide to go with 22", especially on a bumpy road.
Good Luck

Really appreciate the advice guys. Good thing that I asked! Yup, I am definitely going to 20" instead now. Just still need to find a all black set that I like.

Just thought I'd chime in here.

I just installed some 22's on my Cayenne w/air suspension and have to say..That the the ride is actually BETTER than with my stock 19's!! Yes I know it sounds crazy, but it is. And my Cayenne is lowered as well. My 19's have blizzaks on them and are 255/45 all around. The little bumps are what I am talking about most. With the 19's..I really felt them..With the larger 22's...They are much less noticeable now. My tire size on my 22's is 265/35 front and 295/30 rear.

I was afraid that the ride would be unpleasant and jarring, but its not which makes rolling on my 22's even better! lol Good luck with your wheel choice!

That's definitely unexpected and interesting to hear. Since it will be quite an expensive "trial and error" for me to play with, especially when this is my wife/kid's ride, I will probably just chicken out this time and stick with a 20" at the most for now.

I just have to start saving a few pennies so I can have my next car all to myself

Thanks guys!

Go 22". I just installeld 22" Techart on my 11 CS and noticed no real degredation. The 20's will look good BUT the 22's will look great.

22 inch Techart reps.........be prepared to be stranded when you break a tire/steel belt.......They are easy to break.....

I have 3 sets of wheels, summer OEM 17's with Highway tires, winter 17's OEM flat black with A/T's and Summer 22's with one dead tire and 3 50% tread's im stuck with probably having to buy a whole new set.

i just went from 17s to 22s and the ride quality is barely any worse. the only difference I feel is when i first roll off my driveway sidewalk onto the street. the bigger issue is tire noise. I'm not sure if its because i bought cheap tires, but these tires are terribly noisy compared to the OEM 17s.

Why not just 21"?. My came with the sport 21" + p zero 295/35. It ride very good. The problem you will experienced with 22" is from the tires not the wheel size. How I am so sure? When I changed my to 22", none of my top grade favorite tires (P Zero, PS3...etc) has size for cayenne. Only the suv or truck tires available to choose. So I started with Diamaris but its noisy due to its tread patern, then switched to Toyo, the noise improved but still far from the oem P Zero. I missed the ride feeling with standard 21". So I am now ordering the new ADV1 set to go back to 21" just to be able to use good tires.

Same here.. with the air suspension, the ride is better than my 18" winter Blizzaks. The Blizzaks might be marginally softer, however, they have crazy bump steer due to the softer sidewalls.

Wife sometimes borrows the CTT and loves the drive characteristics (w/ 22"s) more than her Audi.

I should also mention that I have driven a couple of Cayennes w/o air suspension on 18"s and the ride was surprisingly jarring. I think the air suspension works wonders in the dampening department.
