PCM and traffic question

Hi guys, I've had my cayenne for a few weeks now and this is driving me nuts, I did a European delivery and while i was in Europe the traffic was displayed and I could see the option to activate it in the menu (it was amazing the amount of traffic info displayed).

Now I get my car delivered here in Canada (Montreal) and I have no traffic info, the option is not even in the menu, I asked my dealer and he said that we have no traffic info in Canada but if I drive in the US it will display!?!?

So after reading up on this apparently there is a XM nav traffic service you can get but I also read that it sucks (I have no XM option) my question is, even if I have no XM should I not see the "show traffic" option in the set map / map view options?

Also does anyone know if the traffic will just magically show up once I drive in the US?

I have a feeling I'm getting the run around and they don't look as they know what they are talking about.

You need the XM package in order to see the traffic data in the US. But don't feel bad - the service is a POS. I only ordered my Cayenne with XM because of the real traffic service and after a few months I decided to not pay for it anymore. The data is at least a few hours delayed, so I saw myself constantly stuck in I-5 (Seattle area) while the map would show it as green, very little traffic.

Thanks, it was really driving me nuts, i paid the extra $ for the Nav and thought that the traffic info was automatic like tom tom or garmin...you'd think that they would have made it standard on a car like this.

in Europe it was amazingly accurate and would even include it in the calculation of the trips...it's like we're in a third world country with out technology here

I don't believe it would be possible, or reasonable, to make a system (traffic or otherwise) to accommodate worldwide systems unless there becomes some type of worldwide standard. It's a German system likely designed to be optimized for German and/or European systems. You took European delivery therefore, you will likely have European standards.
