Upgrade Head Unit?

Are there good replacement head units (nav/radio/dvd/bluetooth for phone) that can still use the steering wheel controls and fit nicely into the stock location? (2006 S Titanium Edition)

There are a few companies like PAC and Metra that make an adapter harness for various vehicles. I've used them in previous cars with varying levels of success, though never in a Cayenne. I've generally found that the more functions the steering wheel buttons perform, the less likely you are to get the adapter harness to function fully. I have seen a few guys running aftermarket head units in my search for a Cayenne, but they just look out of place to me due to the proportions. It's definitely a personal taste thing so everyone is different.

I am currently thinking about a Kenwood head unit for my 06 CS. The factory unit is just not functioning correctly and it doesn't have the bells and whistles I have gotten used too with my other vehicle. I have seen that NAV-TV has a adapter kit that works with some aftermarket head units so that You can still use the SW controls and the fiberoptic Bose system. I hope that is all true or else this install will be a bit more costly and time consuming than I thought.

Anybody ever check out the Dynavin head units? They have a lot of modern features and I believe they are an exact fit for the Cayenne head unit space. I've never used one but I hear good things.

I also was wondering about this unit! They are $800.00 and supposed to be an exact fit? Would love to hear a review!

what you want to hear? dynavin are cheap, and can play video-dvd - only two pluses. sound are VERY bad, if you have non-bose car it will became MEGABAD. screen menu is chinese style, absolutely not for porsche. nothing better pcm3 for now.

How hard is it to upgrade a 955 to pcm 3? What does the pcm 3 offer are far as features (I understand it's a higher quality).

how hard - depends on skills... electrician can make it but still needed wiring schematics, tools, piwis etc...

features 7 inch touchscreen, radio incl xm, dvd or dvdchanger(optional), bluetooth, sim-card ready(optional), navigation with traffic (not all countries work but in US work), ipod-usb-aux-ready(optional), tv(optional), supports optional rearwiew camera, trip computer works, bose works better than old version, sends info to instrument panel, looks as it should be in this car.

I've done this several times. First installed PCM3.0 - in my cayenne 2004, already for two years. started with simple - I've ended with almosl all options that was available to activate - only bluetooth handset is still uninstalled.

in brief for conversion you will need
1. skills in electrics
2. wiring schematics
3. pcm 3.0 itself. if buy used - watch it better - can be broken or not working one - I had bad experience.
4. if your car have BOSE - new BOSE amp. if not - you also need an amp to install, porsche one called ASK, or aftermarket one, but amp needed 100% or you will burn loudspeaker outputs on a pcm.
5."quadlock" connector for PCM and different pins for it, even for optic cable.
6. also you will need ring terminators for optic - all "old" devices such as cd-changer or phone module will not work anymore. if you have tv-tuner - it also need to be new.
7. 957 gateway for 955 models

after you have all parts together - don't get scared, install them.

after installation it need to be coded for your car.
dealers will not sell codes to you, but don't cry - codes can be obtained without them for almost any car, I can help you with.

in most common cases PCM3 wil work just right after installation.
BUT.
options in that case can't be altered. and after a while some options will dissappear such as navi maps, bluetooth etc.

I have photos on russian site with some details - here's link if it can be interesting
http://www.knclub.ru/f/thread23571.html you can try google translate - people says it is fun reading ))
also here in 997 section there's topic about installation pcm3 in 911, I helped already to three users do their installs answering hard practical questions and helping in buying codes. https://www.6speedonline.com/forums/...sion-done.html

Hi SERG,

I installed pcm 3 on my Cayenne 2004 turbo, with new bose amp, everything works but after few minutes I have a message in blue in the dow left corner of the screen and the pcm switch off.
I didn't know that i needed to replace the Gateway, have you got the part number for a Gateway ? Where is located this part?
Is it possible that the Gateway is my problem of switching off after few minutes?
Thank you in advance for your help

and what is written there in blue? if about switching off pcm - then check your wiring, something done wrong way, can wires not in place.
gateway is behind glove box. but you dont have as separate unit due to 2004MY - it is part of instrument cluster. but it is not the thing.
