Tipping the detail guys...Y or N

Just scheduled a mobile detail...wondering if it is accepted practice to tip or not (of course if the job is well done)...what do most people on the forum do?

And if most people tip, how much?

If you're happy with the service then tip the guy. How much depends on how happy you are and how much the service was. I detail my own vehicles, but a long time ago I had a car detailed for $100. He did a nice job and I threw him a $20.

I agree with ez1973. If you're satisfied with their job then it's ok to give a tip.

As a former detail guy, I'd say yes. Most people don't, but it was always appreciated when I'd get a little bonus cash.

Would you tip 10%-20% like all other services? I am having my CTTS detailed and opti-coat applied. Wanted to know what a decent tip would be.

Generally speaking, if you are seriously considering if you should tip someone, the answer is probably "Yes".

I tried tipping my detailer (owner) and he refused.
Said when I become a repeat customer that will be more than enough.

When I pay $200, or more, for a full detail, I already expect to be much more than satisfied. When you contract a professional for a job, and they do the job, there is no need for a tip. When you go to the tire shop and they do your alignment or installation, do you tip... No. You pay what they told you the project costs.

Tipping is for low wage service providers that are waiting on or serving you under the employ of other's who are making the bigger profit.
