Tuned 955 Turbo ECU Swap

Guys, does anyone know if we can take a tuned ECU from 955 Turbo and drop it into another non-tuned 955 Turbo?

I used to swap my Audi S4 ECU back and forth with ease. Sometimes just did a recode with VAGCOM etc. and all was good. Can this be done with the 955 Turbo's as well?

Some computer modules are coded with the VIN number. Considering the importance of the DME (ECU), I think it is highly likely that is will have VIN coded in it. If so, I think the CANBUS gateway would either reject the swapped DME or the security system would throw a flag. Either way is no good.

This is just a theory though on my experience. It could be perfectly fine... just be prepared for the worse, if you try it.

So basically all those ECU's on ebay are worthless? There's got to be some smart people that can recode the ECU's even with the VIN coded to the security system and ECU.

Your original question implied a simple back and forth switch like your Audi S4, which my response was that I would doubtful; which still stands.

In regards to buying a used computer module and having the VIN recoded, I believe you can do this only with a PIWIS. Only dealers or indy shops that pay a ridiculous amount per month to "lease" the tool from Porsche can do this. Either way, you are taking to a Porsche specialist and paying for the service; not exactly a simple swap.

If you think you want to do the latter, call your local Porsche dealer or indy and ask them if they feel comfortable doing this. The CANBUS network has been known to be difficult to troubleshoot, so I can see many places having some trepidation about trying a DME swap.

I just want to try and protect my factory ecu. I'm interested in getting a flashed DME/ECU but I would also like to keep my factory ecu as a back up just in case.

The S4 did not have an immobilizer, which allowed to you swap ECU's with no issue. Your Cayenne ECU is aligned to the immobilizer, so you would need the dealer to align the second ECU to your vehicle in order for it to function.

Yeah, I talked with a tuner and they said I just had to have the ECU coded with the immobilizer. How easy that is....soon to find out.

Once again a trip to a dealer or a PIWIS-equipped indy is your only solution. I think the question is how many hours of labor will they charge and at what rate...

From memory, it is something like EVOMS intake, Turbo S 82mm TB and intake manifold, diverter values, downpipes, secondary bypass, and full exhaust. I just recently built a custom ypipe and plenum that will push me deep into the 700 hp/tq range (still have to redyno).

My power mods are pretty well documented. If you do a search on my name and all my opened threads, you will see what I mean. Here is the standard list of threads I hand out, that will get you on your way:
