Official Cayenne Weight reduction/loss
Official Cayenne Weight reduction/loss
So after inspiration with 996/997 turbo weight reduction thread , I thought to open this one .
So no metter how much hp you add still you can feel those 2355kg + driver weight .
So first the simple things :
- how much weight reduction from full catless exhaust ? Secondary cat , downpipe , muffler ?
-weight reduction from the trunk ( weight of trunk cover and spare wheel removal kit ?
-lightweight battery !?

This is a joke right, you really think 100 pounds is going to make a difference with a truck that weights over 2 1/2 tons. You would save more weight not filling up the truck with a full tank of gas then taking off body parts.
Well every 9lbs you gain 1 hp and when you are at 650-700 there isnt anything left to do ..
probably loose another 200 lbs by getting rid of the seats, and replacing the drivers seat with a light racing seat. door panels and carpet might loose you another 75 lbs. the AC and sound system might loose you another 100 lbs. as far as exhaust, why even bother with a cat and mufflers, just run straight pipes.
of course even with all that, im not sure it will make much difference, though you might improve your mpg a bit.

Well my goal is 700 hp and 300 hp/tone next week I will install my downpipes and be straightcat and almost 700hp (daily driver )
Cayenne weight from factory is 2355 kg + 70kg driver so I need to lose almost 100kg to reach 300hp/tone ... 75lbs from exhaust, 50 or more from trunk (how needs spare tire removal kit when I dont have a spare tire and workshops are 5 min away
) , thats almost 125 lbs + lightweight battery (factory batery must be 50-60lbs These are cheap mods , after these carbon fiber will be expensive .
Good luck - everytime I seriously consider shedding weight from my cayenne, I end up thinking about trading it in for a PTT/S. Same engine, only 1200 lbs less. That will make a difference!

Sorry, I didn't weigh my OEM battery when I replaced it since we do not have an official weight thread.
As long as the AMPS match and the pos/neg top terminals are in the right position, you should be okay. You just may need to make some new clamps if the new battery is that much smaller.
You do know that Porsche makes a lightweight lithium-ion battery, right? It weights under 12 lbs! But insanely priced...

I cant see any diference from braille batteries and porsche lithium battery . Suncoast even sells the breille battery with carbon fiber bracket . Also they have a big braille battery , same size with porsche cayenne oem , but weight reduction is not to much , I think it weights 30lbs but nevermind
My hunch is the Braille battery would work fine for the Turbos in warm climates. It is not difficult battery-wise to start an engine at mild temperatures, and But you can forget about it starting in the snowbelt in winter! Even a bad battery will often work for months, until either the heat or the cold shows it bad.
One more factor - The Turbo V*s have lower compression ratios than the S and GTS, so can get away with a battery with lower cold crank amps than on an S or GTS.

The cheapest and easiest has to be to only ride on a 1/4 tank of gas. That's a 125lb weight reduction right there.
You could also consider a diet. The driver is usually the heaviest removable variable in a car. Then electric seats followed by the spare or speakers depending on the sizes of both.

I guess you have to decide what you really want. I want a luxury SUV to move me around quickly, quietly and in comfort. If you are looking for light and ?, then as already stated - remove carpets, seats, lose 20-50 pounds (most people could anyway), remove spare, get some expensive light-weight rims, don't fill up if you're within 5 minutes of necessities, take out the CD changer, compressor - and you will have saved around 400 pounds +/-. That ought to do the trick. Sound-proofing also weights a lot. And, there's always resale to think about. However, you can't have both - full luxury and weight reduction.
