Cayenne Rant - Screaming for Help !!

Hi Everyone, Im new here, and my first ever Porsche - The Cayenne S '06 which I bought a couple of weeks back, I have a bunch of questions.

Since this car is going to be with me for the next 24months - now Im begining to regret this decision for reasons I state below.

coming from a chevy mid-size sedan - My bro instigated me to go for a fancy brand, So I shortlisted the Cayenne S '06, X5 '07, and MB GL480 '06.

I chose the Cayenne because it was the cheapest of the 3, also because in the brief research I did prior on buying it.

Problem 1) It has 6 CD changer system, but for some unknown reason, Im allowed to change/use only one CD. So where are the remaining 5 CDs? They wont eject, and play some arabic music that I need to change desperately!!

Problem 2) It has a DVD drive, which I accidentally found, under the Passenger Seat (wow, what were the VW/Porsche engineers/designers thinking placing it there.. and it has a Navigation Disc which is from the stone age I believe.
anyways, i dont really need/use the navigation, and I dont care much about it, so can i use this drive for Music/mp3/ or any other purpose ?? will it work ?

Problem 3) I read online on some sites - and it does say in my PCM manual as well - Some models are capable of playing "MP3 encoded CD's with a system update" - But my system wont read/recognize the mp3 data disc I burnt for it. So is there a way to check/work/sort this out ?

Problem 4) How do I checks my PCM version, Software version? And How do I update/upgrade it? The after market replacements of pioneer /kenwood etc are bloody expensive, and wont work with the steering mounted controls.

Problem 5) the Trunk door (is supposed to go up by itself) unfortunately mine does not, and I have to manually lift it up. Its quite heavy and quite a pain, if Need to place a heavy bag in the trunk, so Why is my car not doing it. I went to the mechanic, and he said, hes clueless .. will need to open up the roof and what not. I dont want to go to the dealership, for reasons - I cannot really afford their spectacular pricing presently, and I would like to do most of the stuff myself.

My apologies for such a long first post, but information on these things are scarce, and ridiculously scattered all over the internet.
Everyday, every min of driving this vehicle, I think, I should have gone for the X5. Its infotainment system looked so much superior and aesthetically organized.

Any help / information / suggestion is highly appreciated !!

PS: Yes music is kinda important and bigga deal for me - Im 24, and this car comes with cool bose speaker system, that I intend to make use of.

Porsche shines in the drive ability technology side of things, and tend to suck in the sound system/mp3/phone/navigation side of things. Especially in the 04-06 years. My nav sucks rocks and I never use it. On second thought maybe it is me. lol
The 6 CD changer is on the passenger side rear compartment behind the rear wheel.
That's all I can help with.

3) I had to burn CDs and it works on mine. I can't see a reason why it doesn't work on yours unless you burnt it wrong.

4) How to check PCM version according to another poster:
A. Select the "Info" button
B. Select the "Option" tab
C. Select the "System Version"
Not sure if this work or not...My car is down stairs in the garage. My guess is 2.0 or 2.1...IIRC.

5) Trunk struts need to be replaced for your problem 5. Mine does it time to time as well. There's a DIY if you want to do it. Parts are relatively cheap.

I use my navigation system quite a bit and can't really complain considering how old my vehicle is now. I hope you got other common problems sorted out.

#2: It's a DVD based NAV system. The drive cannot be used for any other purpose. You could always update the disk, but if you don't use the NAV, then it's probably not worth it.

The 6 disc changer is in the back yes but the head unit also holds one disc. If you hit the source button it will go to the single disc in the deck first. Hit the course button again and it should go to the 6 disc changer next. Took me a few tries to figure that one out too.

Can't help you with the rest of 'em though except the rear hatch....you need to replace the struts which are up inside the overhead. Bit of work to get to them but easy enough to replace.... http://www.ecstuning.com/News/Porsch...004_2005_2006/

Here's how to replace 'em...http://www.pelicanparts.com//techart...eplacement.htm

Not quite sure if I understand the logic of buying a used premium vehicle based off the suggestion to go "fancy"..

Good luck on the search for answers and hopefully you will understand the value in what you purchased.

I hate to be the one to ask - Did you read your manual. The stereo system is detailed therein. Welcome to the group.

First, THANK YOU for pointing out the cd changer drive. Ive finally located it.
Second, cayenne maybe an agile vehicle.. but isnt the best. I test drove the 2009 X6, and boy.. thats a precision drive. and what a cockpit. but too damn expensive. But yes, cannot compare a 2006 vehicle to a 2009 vehicle.

I test drove the 06' X5 - felt like a TANK, superbly built, but looked dated and ugly. the benz GL looked like a bus. Cayenne seemed better buy for 2006 standards.
But the X5 '07 was slightly more expensive, drive seemed okay, but the instrument cluster was aesthetically placed. I still dont know why didnt I go for it.

MP3's ? Mp3 discs ? works fine on yours ? 2006 cayenne s ?
wow!! but how ??
im attaching my PCM details (pics), kindly help me sort this mess. If I can play one mp3 disc, im sorted.. I dont wanna burn 6 audio discs.. too much effort..

As for trunk struts.. Ill check it on the weekend, and get back.

And I assume 2014 maps / nav DVD wont be avl for a 2006 vehicle.. ?
Thanks anyways, appreciate the info

Oh thanks for pointing that, I was under the assumption can use the remaining 5 discs, only once I eject the single disc..

SW version pics

Once again, thank you everyone for responding.

I dont understand it either. Like i mentioned, my family coaxed me into it.
And now I have to live with it. So im trying to make the most of it.

Hopefully people like yourself can point me to the correct path, and help me understand the value of what Ive purchased.

As I mentioned in my first post, I did read the PCM manual, which states mp3 encoded discs shall work with a system update.
This system update is rather ambiguous - could mean updating the system software, or replacing the entire system to a newer one.

Thank you.

Suncoast does have the PCM 2.1 Map Update (2014) available for MY2006.

From your pics, looks like you have the "A" version of the PCM software and you need the dealer to update it to the "B" version in order to run the NAV updates.

hmm..
Is there any possibility that I can do this myself ?
also, will the update enhance functionality of anything other than the NAV?

I ask only to understand what should I expect from this PCM update.
Since - to get an appointment with Porsche here, I will first have to book a service appointment.. only then will I be able to tell someone to update the system software, because I need some specific features.

I checked last week, there is a waiting period of 5 weeks for the earliest appointment.. So..

How do you tell if it is the A or B version?
