Steering wheel "buttons" stopped working
Hi all
Newbie to the 6speed forum. Not new to Porsche's though, having had a few 911s, 944s and 914s. Club raced the 944 and 914s.
My dilemma, I just purchased (1 week ago) an 09 Cayenne (V6 6 Spd)with 28000 miles from a local P dealer in Denver. The paddle controllers/switches (audio) on the steering wheel stopped working tonight. I hadn't gone through a full tank of gas before the problem occurred. None of the buttons on the steering wheel face are working. Is this a weak point in the Cayennes? Wiring harness failure? Is it possible to inadvertently deactivate the buttons? The audio unit is a Pioneer unit that the previous owner installed. The car looks and drives brand new. I'm very disappointed that a week after purchasing the vehicle this happened. Any insight is appreciated. Thanks in advance.

No, this is not normal. Since you have an aftermarket stereo, it would have had to have a special aftermarket interface with the factory steering wheel buttons. Find out where that module is and start your troubleshooting there. Odds are that it won't be too far up/downstream from there.
If you are reading between the lines, the steering wheel buttons themselves are probably the least likely to give you issues if you have an aftermarket stereo install on a factory fiber-optic system.
