I'm currently in the market for purchasing a Porsche Cayenne CPO. Nothing fancy. Just looking to get the base Cayenne as a daily driver and looking to see the best deal. Have been looking nationwide with the help of CarGurus. Missed a local deal earlier this week for a '15 Cayenne with 748 miles for $54k.
I've come across a dealership that has two Cayenne's for sale. Both are 2016, however one has 2,000 miles less and the dealers is asking $8k more for the vehicle. I called them up and spoke to the sales manager but he sounded annoyed by my questions and was rushing to get me off the phone.
I was wondering if these options justify the more expensive Cayenne to be $8k more expensive. Taken directly from the website:

The price is listed on special as $63,500. What does the total order of $59,295 mean?
The cheaper Cayenne with 2k more miles has the following options and is listed for $55,150:

The first one is better equipped, has a better warranty (Porsche CPO is great) and lower miles than the 2nd one. It's $8k more than the 2nd one. Only you can say if this is worth it to you.. but the CPO right away is worth $2,000+. Heated/ventilated seats - the ventilated will be very nice in steamy Florida.
You'll have to ask them about the discrepancy in price.. between total order and their asking price.

- Almost 2 months of additional extra warranty
- 19" wheels
- Ventilated seats
- Electronic slide/tilt moonroof
- premium package which includes: [PA2] Automatically Dimming Rear View Mirrors with Memory Package; [8EA] Bi-Xenon™ Headlights with Porsche Dynamic Light System (PDLS); [7X8] ParkAssist (Front and Rear) with Reversing Camera; [658] Power Steering Plus; [4D3] Seat Ventilation Front
I do agree the ventilated seats are great to have during the summer months, but an extra $8k just seems iffy.
I can't fathom how amazing it must be to drive a Turbo, GTS, or one of the more powerful versions of this SUV.
Since we're getting rid of a Lexus RX350 (2013), I couldn't help but notice how much smaller the Cayenne is compared to the Lexus. The cargo volume of the Cayenne is 23.66cu ft whereas in the RX it's 40cu ft. Same can be said about the rear leg room with the former being smaller compared to the latter.
Have you ever thought/noticed that the cabin space is smaller in the Cayenne? Don't get me wrong, I'm not a big guy or anything, only 5'8.
Went and test drove a 2014 Base Cayenne today. The vehicle did have the park assist, reversing camera, heated/ventilated seats. Great vehicle. I felt the vehicle was just amazing. Extremely grounded to the vehicle, great response in sport mode suspension, and felt like driving a tank with several superchargers attached to it.

As far as back seat? No comparison.
With the Cayenne front seats up a bit high you have a vast amount of tootsie room UNDER the seat in the Cayenne. You can almost cross your feet. And if you're 5'8" the front seat will be pretty far forward or your feet won't reach the pedals. Put the steering wheel all the way forward and it positions you in a very comfortable position that leaves plenty of knee room in the rear.
You do know the rear seats move forward/backward too right? Not just tilt like the RX - they move to make more foot room if you need it. Lever is right under the middle of the seat cushion forward edge.
Having both - the '11 CTT is my go-trip vehicle usually. I find it much easier and less tiring (and WAY less boring) to drive than the RX350. The only plus the RX350 has over the CTT is - it's the most reliable vehicle on earth, which is why my wife has it. She values that for some reason.. (I think it might have something to do with the number of flat-bed trips her BMW Touring took..)
Just looked it up...
Cayenne - 191″ L x 79″ W x 67″ H
RX350 - 192.5" L x 74.6"W x 67.7"
Not a bunch of difference there.
Where there is a difference:
Cayenne - 114" wheelbase
Lexus - 109.8" wheelbase
I didn't look up weight balance, but the Lexus IS a front wheel drive platform with added on "4-wheel".. the Cayenne was built as a full-time 4-wheel drive system with the power primarily going to the rear wheels for better handling dynamics. There is no comparison on performance or handling.
Cayenne Burmeister audio is superb, 18 way sports seats are so much better than the Lexus, and the seat ventilation actually blows cooled air at you, not just recycled cabin air. Plus the build quality (look, feel) makes it obvious that the Lexus - while nice - was built by Toyota.
BTW - you really owe it to yourself to try the turbo.. heh, heh...

We own both. I suspect the difference in the cargo compartment cubic-feet measurement is actually a difference in measurement techniques. The Cayenne is slightly smaller then the RX350 - but not a lot smaller. Or - the Cayenne measurement was made with the cargo-cover in place, and the RX measurement with their cargo cover removed. We use the same suitcases and travel bags in both vehicles and I curse every time that they're too damn much.. but they are the same.

Since the car is for my Mother, it's going to take some suggesting for my Dad to get a Cayenne. His concern is the reliability of these vehicles. Having owned two e39 BMW 5-series vehicles which he was not happy with their maintenance & issues, he's a fan of Lexus for their reliability. He wants to get the GX, but it's such a boring vehicle, and I feel the SUV will topple over going around the corner, seeing how tall the SUV is.
The Cayenne we drove had the following options:

Calling the E39 "all time most reliable BMWs of all time" is a bit of a stretch IMHO. It's fine for the first 60,000 miles, then the plastic cooling system starts going, followed by electronics (modules, alternator, etc) and suspension bits until finally after about 100k miles, the monthly maintenance costs are higher than buying a Lexus RX-350 and paying the monthly installment (and losing the complaints from the wife...) Which is why you see an RX-350 in my driveway - it's the reliable car.
The most reliable BMW of all times probably is one of the 2 wheeled ones (my last R1200R went 100k miles, needing no more than 2 oxygen sensors, and my current one appears to be equally as good). For 4-wheeled ones, probably the E28 series and the E34 5 series were the "good ones" - made before self-destructing plastic was used in the cooling systems (although some E34's had the plastic water pump impeller that turned to chunks after 50,000 miles.) Best engine they made? Undoubtedly the M30 - noted for being trouble-free for 200k+ miles if you keep oil in it.
The E39 was many wonderful things (I owned several, including a "Touring") but ultimate reliability? Nope.

REALLY? I've run a Yahoo group dedicated to the E39 series - now on about it's 12th year, and still active with around 400 members.

Agree about the e28 (see my signature). But my point was that if the OP's dad wants a carefree car, you can't beat a Toyota (I mean Lexus)

But I have to agree entirely with your point - it's why my wife drives an RX-350. I was tired of hearing about what broke this month on the 525iT.
