I am pretty sure i need a new one. Was driving the turbo yesterday and noticed the volt gauge between 10v and 11v. When i got home turn the car off and tried to restart but no luck. I just installed a new battery this spring and everything seem fine.

So , anyone know where i can go for a rebuilt alternator? somewhere close to naperville, and somewhere they will not charge me a arm and a leg to get some work done. I know its alot to ask but please help. I have search and found a couple places but, I of the the owner has changed and the others are closed.

hey there. I have a 02 C4S and had to get a new alternator this summer. it when down at the same time i was doing my own 60k service. so while picking up all the stuff at the dealer i asked how much was an alternator - $850. yea ok, screw you guys let me do some research on this.

after reading the search options here and on rennlist i decided to just get it rebuilt as autozone and murry's didnt have that item in stock (they where only asking $220 for the alternator plus core).

i remembered a alternator shop only a few blocks away from my place. called them up ON A SAT. and asked if they can do this. they said sure no problem bring it by. after having no choice i removed it from the car (1hr only) and dropped it off. i told them what car its off, but they were like, "bosch are nothing to repair, easy stuff." come back in 3hr.

less than an 1hr later, they give me a call and say come by, its all done. WOOT WOOT! rebuilt, with a 1yr warrenty and it only cost me $150. granted, this shop is in chicago and the other one i was gonna go with a rebuilt is in chicago as well but to save THAT much money, its the best option. those two places are:

I would like to save some money on this but i may be out of luck.
It took you one hour to get your alternator out? It would take me an hour just to fine the alternator? NO , but for real , i have a guy here local that will do the job for 650. Good deal? not sure but what the hell. I wish i had the time to do my own work.

Thanks for all the PM and help on this one. The p-car will be drop of at becker service center for a rebuilt alternator today and hopefully everything will go smoothly and will be back in the P car.

 

well 650 is fair, what your really paying for is labor and the time for someone to do it instead of you. they will pay the rebuilt price (150) so your paying them 500 to do the work for ya. it all really comes down to convienece since you said you have very little time if any at all, which i totally understand. overall, you'll have the car back like brand new without touching anything except your wallet.

btw - im not sure if you got my last message at the end of my post. did you pick up Markski's old recaro seats? i really wanted those and wanted to know if you got them and if you wanted to sell them later down the line? hit me up when you got time, thanks!

Yes i did pick them up,

I have them in my living room.
I am planning in installing them this week with the help of mark.

I'll let you know if i ever sell.
