Honestly chasing after "gloss" is a bit ridiculous. As it depends on so many factors other than the polish sealant combo.

You can take 2 cars same color same year, same polish same sealant and get completely different numbers.

If you are happy with your products stick with them.

I let my clients eyes be the gloss meter, after I'm done with the car I call them out to inspect it and I can tell how glossy it is based on the size, width and diameter their eyes open when they see it.

Gloss meter = $700 average

Customer eyes bulging out of his head with jaw totally dropped = Priceless!

They are overpriced and pretty much useless unless it is a competition for a custom paint car show.

Yes, I understand all your points, but I need one for warranty purposes for a product that I sell that warranties gloss. I personally think that it won't really make a difference to my customers, but the manufacturer wants readings.

I'd be interested in a gloss meter. Our eyes are one thing, but having solid numbers to gauge a vehicle's characteristic is another. This way, you can quantify results form your work and it will add a new dimension to your work as a professional.

If any other detailers on this board are interested, let's try to do a group buy, if we can find someone to sell them at a discount for bulk. I believe that you place it on the paint, and it uses a flash, and measures reflectivity, but I'm not 100% sure myself. Maybe Moe will start selling these puppies?

gloss meter source

I found one source for top of the line, hand-held units, but don't scream at me when you see their prices: www.gloss-meters.com

Thanks Rydawg. I'd like to find a good gloss meter under $1000 myself so if you see one let me know....
