Props for a Great Vinyl/Rubber/Tire Dressing

Thanks to a recommendation from Bob Willis (Auto Concierge), I bought both of the following:

New Look Trim Gel
Silk Shine Dressing

I like the gel better than the spray. It leaves a really nice wet look that lasts. The gel is also great on the tires — as long as you don't overdo it, it doesn't sling off; this is the only stuff I've ever tried that claims to not sling off and really doesn't.

Make sure to get some applicator pads for the tires. For the window trim, I just dab some on a microfiber cloth and apply with my index finger (through the cloth) then wipe off the "overspray" with your favorite quick detailer. FWIW, I like the Adam's Quick Detailer better than Chemical Guys because the Chemical Guys product is a little harder to get off. Just use whatever you're used to.

Qd's

Erik,

The Adam's qd looks good on the black because of the silicon, Synthetic qd by Chemical Guys is a real good product but now I use it as clay lube since I started using Gloss-it enhancer qd.,the Adam's has a great smell though.

The adams was a fine QD because it was slick but I stopped using it for claying because of the residue it leaves behind. For claying I always say Meguiars last touch QD 1:1 is the greatest, its cheap and super slick, doesnt do much to enhance the finish though.

That may be true, but they're not exactly the same. The QD products, for example, are definitely not the same formulation.

Lightbulb Cat's out of the bag

Erik,

Cat's out of the bag, speed shine is Adam's most of us pro's know this and in the end it really does not matter as long as you like how it works for you. I almost mentioned this in the reply to your thread as I felt this matter has been beat to death on other detailing sites(autopia, detailingbliss ect..) so in the end use what works for you.

Ok, now you're confusing me. Speed Shine is a Griot's product (though I realize it's probably re-labeled).

All I was saying is that Adam's Quick Detailer (pink) and Chemical Guys Synthetic Detailer (purple) are not the same thing. They smell different and are a different color (for whatever that's worth). But most importantly, they feel dramatically different when wiping. FWIW, this is the stuff you recommended I buy from Sammy at his grand re-opening.

If you're saying that Adam's Quick Detailer (pink) and Chemical Guys Speed Wipe (peach) or Quick Detail Spray (pink) are the same thing, I would certainly trust you know what you're talking about -- I've never tried that stuff.

In case you think I'm using the wrong lingo (because I was really confused for a while), look how Chemical Guys names their products:

Synthetic Detailer:

Quick Detail Spray:

Speed Wipe:

Lightbulb The Skinny

Erik,

Sorry I ment CG Speedwipe, what Paul does @ Chemical Guys when they private label is work with the re-seller in formulating to thier particular needs, there is nothing wrong with havind CG private label for someone at all,the only problem that can creep up is when someone claims to have developed a product and tell everyone this folly who knows better(shadyness)and then get exposed on the forums.

Chemical Guys makes alot of great products for the pro and novice alike, with an emphasis on what is in the bottle as opposed to the marketing of the outside of the bottle. In the end it is buyer beware, and this detailing forum hopefully helps those not on the inside so to speak how to choose products based on performance and not hype,as with my business it pays to know who is who in the zoo.

Ok. So Adam's Quick Detailer is the same as CG Speed Wipe? How does CG Quick Detail Spray compare to Speed Wipe? In other words, if I were going to switch from Adam's to CG, which spray do I want to buy?

Thanks man!

That is not quite accurate.

Adams and CG both get their products from an other company. Adams has distinctly different formulations.

There's so many to choose from, you can drive yourself nuts. I've been a user of zymol detail spray and einszett Spray Wax for some time. Recently, I tried the DyNA Liquid Gloss from Detailing Dynamics and it's probably the easiest spray I've ever used. Matt knows, I cannot back it 100% yet since I've only used it twice. I'm going to be using it on my truck for the next 3-6 months and I'll make my final decision then. But some good choices that I've used are Meguiar's Final Inspection, Zymol Detail Spray, and einszett Spray Wax. The einszett isn't a true detail spray as it contain polymer waxes, so it takes a little work to make sure you've wiped off most of the wax. So far, long term, Zymol Detail Spray has been the easiest to use for me and it's priced reasonably. Hope this helps.

Getting Technical

Alright Aaron the formulation has different fragrance and slight color difference, and yes Werner Chemical is the main company with CG being the marketing arm(CG,Smartwax ect..)I was just pointing out the facts to a good customer of mine(Elmel aka Erik)as he is not privey to the detailing gossip and is looking for a way to keep his black 996 turbo wiped down between appointments so he is not tempted to go to the car wash(Erik please don't do this again). Speed wipe works well, and as I stated earlier if you like the Adam's stick with it.
