how to keep tire spray on tires & off paint???
how to keep tire spray on tires & off paint???
probably a really stupid question but I can't stand how tire shine spray gets all over the car right after i wash it, so whats your technique?
i basically have tried the spray white foam kind and let the car sit in the sun for a few hours or the car in the garage over night, but as soon as I hit the road there are specks all over the doors and rear panels.
also tried the gel kind and the same thing happens. even went as far as spraying the tires, wiping the spray off the tires, and same thing happens so any suggestions would be greatly appreciated

A couple things to say off the top of my head....
First off, throw out the gels, silicone and spray on dressings. They will only build up and sling off or the over spray will get all over the car.
Secondly, find a good water based dressing, look for a milky like product, not clear or gel.
Third, apply it to an applicator and lightly rub it on the tires.
Lastly, after you're finished with all 4 tires, go back over each tire with the applicator and no dressing and wipe it dry or wipe off any excess build up that there may be. Usually I do not get much build up but maybe just a little so I rewipe it all.
Once it's dried it should not sling.

I would have to agree with that process that's what we do.
A few dressings to look at
Einszett Rubber/Vinyl Care
Swissvax Pneu
Applicators that work well
Uber small blue
Uber large blue

One thing that I find that helps prevent sling as well as increase the durability of your tire dressing is to properly prep your tires before applying the dressing. Use a degreaser on your rubber, such as Poorboy's Biodegradable APC or P21S Total Auto Wash, along with a firm brush and scrub your tires prior to applying your dressing. This will help remove embedded contamination and allow the dressing to properly penetrate your rubber, rather than sit on the surface which can provide additional sling.
As others mentioned, invest in a water based dressing that will absorb into your tires and nourish the rubber. I enjoy using Poorboy's World Bold 'n Bright.
Hope this helps.

Most people just keep putting more and more dressing on tires. You need to get the old stuff off first. So get a good tire cleaner as George mentioned above and a nice stiff bristled brush and clean your tires first. Rinse them well, let that dry, or dry them and then apply your dressing. I'm really fond of Meguiars Detailer Line Hyper Dressing. It comes in a big bottle (gallon?) and you dilute it with water in a spray bottle to your desired shine. I apply it with a Tire King applicator, let it sit and then go over it later with another light coat if I feel it needs it. And I don't have any problem with sling. I also know that the Zaino tire stuff is pretty good as well. But almost anything in an aerosol can that you spray on and it foams up will sling (at least the stuff that I have used)
But you've got some great advice from all of those who have posted already!

I learned about spray tire foam / tire dressings the hard way. There is just no way to stop the spray from floating around. I'm not a pro detailer, but I use the Surf City Garage Beyond Black tire dressing; applied with a sponge tool. Great stuff. Before application though, I clean the tires with Griot's Garage rubber cleaner, then rub them down with Griot's Rubber Prep. THEN the surf city stuff goes on. Lasts a long time that way. Great thread.
I would also add that with the spray stuff, if you are spraying directly on the tires then chances are you are getting that stuff on your paint as it tends to float in the air a lot. This is the reason why I will do my fender wells and my first run on the tires generally before I get into the polishing or LSP application.

einmann fabrik tire cleaner is supposed to be an excellent tire cleaner. I have used Chemical Guys grime reaper and 1Z blitz before with good results.
Some nice tire dressings would be tropi-care tire dressing or 1Z rubber care.
I apply mine by spraying on the tire, wiping with a foam app, anf then wait about 15 minutes. Then I go back and buff off any excess with a dedicated MF towel.
