Xpel Care

I was wondering if one of the resident experts could answer a question for me regarding expel? I am sorry if this question was asked previously. I did a search and was unable to find anything recent.

I recently had Xpel applied to my car. I'm going to wait 48 hours before washing it. After that I was wondering if I should be applying some type of wax or protectant. I know that the xpel website does have products for care of their clear shield, but I have also heard that you can use just about any wax. What about washing or removing bugs/tar?

Can either Moe or Phil chime in or anyone else that may have knowledge in this area?

Thanks in advance.

bal is infamous around these parts
I've not done it but you can clay it, wax it, etc. Don't use abrasives for obvious reasons and I would avoid chemicals other than speed shine, wax, etc.

XPEL ULTIMATE Protection Film: Care Instructions

To keep your film looking great, follow a few simple guidelines:
  • Wait 48 hours after installation to wash your car. Or hand wash only for the first 48 hours.
  • Remove insect or other stains as soon as possible with bug and tar remover.
  • Stubborn stains can be removed with 99% isopropyl alcohol or lacquer thinner. Take care to keep these chemicals off the vehicle’s paint.
  • Seal with XPEL Flawless Finish Paint Protection Film Sealant at least once every 3 - 4 months to preserve high gloss and add durability.
  • Light scratches in the film will self-heal in 20-30 minutes at room temperature. In colder conditions, or to accelerate the process, pour warm water (120°F) over the affected area.

You can also use any wax as long as it doesn't contain naphtha as an ingredient.

Hope this info helps,

Let us know if you have any other questions

Thanks, I did see this on your site.
I guess since expel is scratch resistant, you can use a detail spray to do a daily wipe down? Given the car is only dusty.

Yes, detail spray will work. We use detail spray during our Auto Shows to keep the cars looking clean.

On our advanced installations, we apply CQuartz Finest nano coating. As a maintenance product, CQuartz reload is an amazing and user-friendly product.

The film does not need to be clayed or polished after installation....it;s already very clean.

As for washing, you can treat as you would paint.

Is it also safe to use the Auto Finesse Iron Out & Obliterate on the xpel ultimate?

Thanks
Chris

I'm not familiar with those products, perhaps Phil from detailersdomain can chime in...I believe he sells it. But, I am familiar with products like it. I'm not sure how safe it is long-term on the urethane of the clear film. Perhaps it's worth an email to manufacturer of either the film or the product. We use a mild clay and paint cleanser to clean clear film. Then nano coating

I had CQuartz Finest applied to the bra (and rest of car) after the Xpel bra was installed. Makes cleaning the car so much easier!

I replaced venture shield on my hood with Xpel Ultimate and it is far superior to the Venture product. I have the 3M scotch on the front 1/4 that look horrible in comparison to the hood now. After the season I need to get those changed.
