I threw a coat of wax on a customers new Z06 today

(Pics didn't come out great, i just got a new Rebel XT and have been playing w/ it and left it in the wrong settings)









as mentioned my camera wasn't in the right setting, but here is a ****ty pic of the orange peel





My take, yes there is orange peel, is it BAD? No, is it very noticeable on black like all other black cars, yes. Is it worse then most I've seen? No. The paint looks good, I didn't notice any dead spots. I wish I could find my gauge reader so I could find out how much paint there is, but then again, it wouldn't work on fiberglass


If this is the kind of orange peel a few of our members are *****ing about and demanding a new car because of, best of luck :lol: You are only fooling yourself. Best thing you can do is pony up for a legit new paint job or some seriously care taken sanding.

 

Car does look nice on the web, what about in person?

 

You just did wax or a full detail?

Time to practice wetsanding!! You'll be fully trained next time Scott! Great job nonetheless!

 

What Bri said, you need to wet sand it for the orange peel.

 

Stryke, i'm no pro, but it looks like the OP is deep in there. I'm not sure it's just the clear. Needless, I ain't about to wet sand this thing

I think wet sanding on a production car is a huge mistake. Most production cars have clear coat the thickness of a sheet of paper. They're not designed to be wet sanded. Not only will you prematurely age the finish, but the UV protection is diminished as the clear coat is sanded. That's just my opinion. The vette looks great Scott.

 

I agree, and if I were to ever have a production car sanded, you sure bet it'd be in a booth hours later getting a couple new coats of clear if I wanted to do it right.

 

The brute acceleration of that car will level that paint and any competition in a heartbeat. Heartbeat of America that is... I can't wait to update my Z06.

 

Car looks great Scott. I love the new z06. 6 piston calipers finally. So, did you get a ride? If so, how was it?

i think it looks really good.
still not feeling the interior.
I drove a chuck mallet 500hp c6 and wasn't very impressed.
However, the torque is a whole different story.... muhahahahhah

Saw my first Z06 up close last week. Brakes looked great, but had some of the worst orange peel on the doors I have ever seen. Bad enough to send me walking away shaking my head.

 

I've been detailing a lot of nice cars lately, and while the Z has horrid orange peel, so does every other car except the lambo's. I did a new rolls a little while back, thing was horrible.


It's a shame too.
