Bentley Continental GT Before/After
Bentley Continental GT Before/After
This car was a lot of fun to work on. It took about 15 hours, over two days. The exterior needed some love but the interior wasn't all that bad. The interior was vacuumed, cleaned with Autoglym Interior Cleaner. The vinyl was treated with Zymol Vinyl, the leather with Zymol Treat, and the wood was waxed using Zymol Detail. The exterior was washed, clayed with Zymol Lehm Klay 2 and Lehm Lube. The first stage of polishing was done with Menzerna Final Polish and LC orange pad. Next Final Polish and LC White pad. Finally Zymol HD-Cleanse Pro with LC black pad. I then polished by hand using Zymol HD-Cleanse, and applied two layers of Zymol Vintage over two days. Hope you guys enjoy looking at this car as much I did working on it.

Notice the halogram on the lower left of the door

More halograming on the hood

Another door shot. This is a result of poor washing technique or wiping down the finish while warm. It moves the wax around giving you a hazy look.

The grill took about 45 minutes to polish. Can you say repitition......

Once the swirls and light scratches are removed, the metallic flecks can be seen clearly.

Believe it or not, DA
4.5 setting and LC pads and Menzerna polishes. Hense why it took 2 days. I could have hit it with the Makita, but I try and get almost the same results with the DA.

The interior wasn't really that bad. The leather does look a bit dry and worn.

Usual carpet dirt and spots.

Lots of sand in the crevices. Notice the wrinkles in the leather on the side of the seat.

The burl walnut dash and all other wood trim was polished and waxed by hand. All this hard work to bring out the true grain of the wood. Well worth the time

I used Zymol Treat on all the leather. I like the soft, satin look it gives me. No odors or smells, other than beef tallow and banana oil, from the conditioner.

I also never apply any LSP by hand. I use my pc for that at speed 3 (liquids)or 4 (paste waxes)
Do you measure paint thickness when using your rotary?
The methods I use can sometimes be a bit unorthadox; but I guess that's what makes me unique. I try and preserve as much of the finish's original integrity. If the finish has some minor, and I do mean very minor, swirls, it's OK. Because unless the finish never sees a wash mitt or towel, those light swirls will be there from the mere wiping of the finish. So it never makes sense to make the car swirl-free by taking down some of the clear. I try and use the DA as much as possible but take my time and use the best pads and polishes available to me. IMHO, the LC pads and Menzerna combination is tough to beat. It allows me to do my magic with Zymol. I try and keep everything simple for my clients to be able to maintain and for my own sanity. I have done cars with the rotary and the results are short of AMAZING. We know the results of the rotary if in the right hand. If I know the DA doesn't stand a chance, I'll polish or compund with the rotary and then finish up with the DA and by hand. I'm trying to get a hold of software that can give more accurate results of the paint's condition and thickness. Until then, my experience and knowledge of the finish is my gauge.

this is a top of the line one for about $2700! it measures 3 separate layers!
