Drive an EXOTIC for free?
Drive an EXOTIC for free?
Just curious...
Is it possible to purchase an exotic, drive for xx,xxx miles and resell for the same price it was purchased for?
For example... in 1999 I was looking at a 1989 Testarossa for $75,000 and 30,000 miles..
Today in 2007 it seems it's STILL worth approx $75,000 and with xx,xxx more miles it may be worth a bit less...
So the question is... can you drive an exotic for free, less maintenance costs and mileage costs?
If one were to purchase a 599GTB today, would it still be worth $450K in 10 years with 30,000 miles? Or a Veyron?

I think you would only be able to "Drive an exotic for free" would to be buy it at m.s.r.p. and then sell it at market value price. But with Ferrari this won't work for the first two years. Correct me if I am wrong.
I was looking at a 91 porsche turbo in 1999, it was for 38K or so with 30K miles on it... I was looking a few days ago for giggles, and prices haven't changed much at all for them since then ....
Yeah I've mentioned this before in other threads. Buying a desirable exotic after it's taken the first depreciation hit is like buying a free car. Take a look at Gallardos. At the low end, you can buy one for $120k or so. Put 5-10k miles on that car, sell it in a year, and you could still bring in $120k. That's a relatively safe bet. Or in a higher price range, pick up an F40 for less than $500k and you're guaranteed to probably make money.

And yes, 2005 Gallardo seem like a no-lose @ $125k too.
But a Veyron... hmmm I really wonder if it'll be a million+ in 5 years...
Enzo, probably not. Veyron, I think maybe/probably. I mean the car costs $9M USD to create and its being sold for $1.5M or so. Sounds like a bargain to me.

I believe the Enzo will hold its price. I am saying that to only Enzos with very very low miles if not delivery.
1 year if you paid MSRP and signed the ROFR (right of first refusal). Afterwards, you could sell it for market and walk away with more $ than what you paid.
yes its indeed possible, but you might not be paying absolutely nothing. You still need to insure it and pay all necessary payments such as taxes. Hmm good idea but most people don't just want to keep it for just a few years
Theirs enough data in the US, that you could put an argument together for say the top 20 or so wanted exotics, (purchase, taxes, running costs, minus market value high, low ,on tradin time over say 1-5 years) any one out their wanna spend some time putting this together, its actually a fascinating question, and if the data does get collected, it would remain a resource fro 6 speed forever and a day.

And you would only get to do it once because chances are the dealer will not sell you a second one at MSRP after pulling that little stunt.
