Oil Change instructions for F430
Oil Change instructions for F430
Rather than drive the car 180 miles round trip to the dealer or have i trucked back and forth, I am about to have my mechanic (don't worry, he's qualified) change the oil and filter in my F430 for the first time (1500 mi). I have the factory approved oil and filter/washer/gasket set from the dealer.
I just wondered if anyone has a link or a .pdf of instructions on changing the engine fluids. I can't find anything. I'm sure he will figure it out anyway but it would be nice to have the instructions.

You might want to ask over on ferrarichat.com
I know you have to be very careful to use the correct torque setting on the new filter, or else you can end up with hot oil spraying out on to your hot engine, which may have unintended consequences.

There is a special tool to remove/install oil filter, other than that it is tools he should have, if he regularly work on european cars.

I had it done at the local Ford dealership (not to worry, Ford GT and Aston Martin (used to be Ford, remember?) qualified mechanic, and my son is service manager.
They made the tool: found a big bolt that fit perfectly into the hex slot and welded a nut on the end of it. Found the instructions for the oil change somewhere, too.
Got about 40 miles on it overnight and them dropped the belly access pans and checked everything is tight this morning.
Much better than driving 90 miles to a dealer.

Make sure it's fully documented so F won't void your warranty. Also good for resale value.
Doesn't most dealer offer flat bed pick up and drop off?
Anyways, it's good to have the inside track on service. I do my own wrenching. Don't trust anyone. It's better to know more about the car anyways.

Yeah, dealer 90 miles away offers pickup.
But I want to take care of it here. Besides, if my son's shop can't do it, I figure I'm in trobule, with all the stuff they run through there. They do everything from Ford GTs and '69 330 GTCs to an honest to God Model T with OEM type iron pistons/rings (most rebuilds use alum and modern style rings). I actually think the Model T is the more difficult car to care for and service, although of course you can buy two or three abslutely perfect ones for the cost of one new 430.

It's not that hard
Of course I shouldn't say that lest I lose customers!
An oil change is an oil change. We service exotic and highlines, so the customer interface is in place. Being equipped withe the proper tools makes the job routine.
I am surprised, albeit not terribly, at the range of prices being charged.
I any event, no matter the marque, develop a good working and trusting relationship with whoever you choose to take care of your vehicle and you.
