Tips on keeping carpet clean?

Don't want to get the carpeting in my Cali dirty... any tips on what to use to help prevent it?

I was thinking about getting the clear plastic mats with adhesive on one side that service departments use and just sticking some of those on there, or perhaps getting some big towels that get close to the same color, but that would be too obvious.

What color is your carpet? If it's a lighter color or tan, you could scotch guard it, you could not wear your shoes while driving, or have specific driving shoes in the car, or you could put down black mats over the lighter colored mats, or clear mats. Tons of options, or next time, just buy one with black carpets.
