Why the relatively poor marks for the F50?

Just my subjective preference. Probably because it followed the F40 and preceeded the Enzo. Jan Brady? :-D

I think my overall point is that modern Ferraris have been lacking in styling to a degree; and I personally think it's on the upswing.

A 458 Scud, F12 GTO/HGTE and the Upcoming Enzo successor would be an enviable trifecta. 4-Seat Ferraris have been a "fail".

And $10-12M for a 250 GTO makes a reach into the past for classic styling a bit daunting.

LOL though I had quibbles here and there after seeing that my first instinct was to ask "why?" as well. The F50 will always hold a special place in my heart because of when it came out. Also how can you argue with a 2700 lb car with a fire breathing V12 practically bolted to your seat?

Okay, okay.

F50 = •••

That's all I can do. :-P

It would be interesting for others to copy/paste the list and rate them.

You obviously have a lot of personal Ferrari experience (who else would have the ***** to type a rating system like that) so your opinion gets a measure of credibility above many others. So a couple questions.

Is your low ratings for the F50 based on looks, performance or a combination of those? Any other criteria?

Seems you like the F12 design. Even that Bugs Bunny front grill and Kia rear?

Looks like the new design direction is similar to Audi....you don't know which model is approahing until its right up on you. I, for one, do not like that.

I mostly agree but give the enzo and 458 a 5 and the f40 a 4. Turbos ok (barely) on my gtr but not for a supercar

LOL. I'm co-owner of a private collection, and we "time share" the many cars and motorcycles. The stash includes everything on the list except the 4-seaters, an Enzo, and the F12 (incoming). We had a 412, 456, and 612, but we broomed 'em since nobody was driving them; and have no plans for an FF. I've had some seat time in an Enzo in Europe, and the money from the 3 we sold is going toward an imminent Enzo purchase.

So a couple questions.

Since styling was the main topic of the thread, it's based mostly on a critique of the visual design. The F50 drives unbelievably well; it's just not as visceral to me as the F40 or Enzo.

Seems you like the F12 design. Even that Bugs Bunny front grill and Kia rear?
The Mazda-mouth grill is a bit akward in photos, but I think it will be different "live". The rear is fine. I'm just not sure how "classic" it will become in the years ahead. If history is an indicator, it won't matter much.

For true timeless style, I'd still take any number of previous designs. We have a 275 GTB/4 and 365 GTB/4 (Daytona) that are more iconic than anything listed but the Enzo.

Looks like the new design direction is similar to Audi....you don't know which model is approahing until its right up on you. I, for one, do not like that.
True for the FF and F12, but not for the 458. But I understand your Audi sentiments. Buy the R8 GT. It's spectacular, and doesn't look like the sedans.

Especially in dark colors, I anticipate the F12 to have quite a presence on the road. The 599, particularly in GTO form, is difficult to supercede. I think they've done it. We'll soon see.

Thanx for participating. We're in the same ballpark. :-)

I see you share my affinity for the 512BB and 288 GTO.

You could take cues on the interior from much worse people than Audi (assuming one buys into this assertion).

I'll refrain from rating since I've never actually driven a Ferrari before.
