Wondering now that you have had the car a while how the overall experience has been? Have you found a Carrera GT to join the stable yet?

Yes, due tell. It's been a few months since you posted those pictures of your garage and I still can see them in my mind.

Buddy, hope everything is well with you. The F40 has been everything I expected it would be. It delivers on so many levels, be it the driving experience or just sitting still. It is the only car I have ever driven, where the experience of a stirring drive requires at least 30 minutes to come down from. I am serious about that. The noises, rushes of acceleration, stones hit the floor, and the ease with which the road is swallowed up is astonishing. I would give up all the other cars just to keep this one.

I called the previous owner to inquire about a CS in his area (more about that later), and upon seeing my caller ID, he answers by saying "I hope you are calling to sell my F40 back to me..." In short, he was full of regret for selling it and offered me 25k more to buy it back ! Best I could do was offer him first right of refusal should I sell it, but I don't intend to.

When I start it, I let it warm up for 10 minutes before taking off. Getting in and out takes a little effort as the race seat and wide sill make for a worthwhile effort. Turn the ignition key, push the starter button and the engine barks into life settling into a steady, strong idle at 1100rpm. The first few shifts are taken with care on a cold box, and the first few brakes are late and hard in order to get some heat into the brakes (they squeal very loud when cold). Once the fluids are up to operational temp, and the brakes and tires are heated, the fun begins. There is little sound insulation in this car...when the engine hits boost and climbs the rpm, the sound visceral experience is AWESOME. Satisfying shifts through the gates, result in rampant acceleration that leaves a tired face (from grinning constantly)...no joke.

The road reactions of enthusiasts is pretty amazing. Pictures at lights, camera phones, requests to pull over and have a look, even a police officer motioning me to go faster after he pulled alongside (umm, ok....)

And yet, the best times are sometimes just going into the garage at night with a beer, and looking it over...it is an ownership experience that quickly becomes way more than that.

As far as the CGT goes....stay tuned....

Doc,

That is just AWESOME! I definately want to add one to the stable some day. I watched the Top Gear episode the other day with the F40, Carrera GT and another car that I can't remember. Anyway that F40 is just so wicked. If you add a Carrera GT I think you will have the 2 best Supercars of the last 20 years.

Congrats!

And yes everything is quite well with me, can't wait for Spring so I can drive the RED BEAST more!

After seeing/hearing a F40 for the first time today, the text descriptions become that much more vivid. One day I'll ride in one of those things
