Whats L.C. in the F430 do?

I know that L.C. stands for Lanch control. and that it's basically the opposite of ABS (whatever that means). But I don't know why the dealer informed me not to use it more than 4 times??? Does it hurt the car??? why would Ferrari put it there if it does???
I haven't tried it as of yet, it's there and everytiime I go out for a spin it bugs me that I can't use it. Anybody with an F430 or information on this "Button" know about what it does??
Have any of you F430 Owners used it?
Is it worth trying? Does it make a significant differance in acceleration?

Whenever I drive around in it I always see that L.C. right there next to me and well... Dunno, should I? or should I not?

i think i read somewhere it eats away your clutch (actually, read that for the lambos - so i hope i'm not making this up)

question is, why do you WANT to use it if you don't drag race
which again raises the questions, why would you want to drag in a ferrari

but yeah, has to do with the clutch is all i know

Launch Control will give you the ability to perform maximum speed take offs from a standing start. I think it allow you to raise the revs and then the car will drop the clutch for you and limit wheelspin automatically to give you the fastest possible acceleration from a standing start. It does, however, have a similar negative impact on the clutch that doing your own drop clutch high rev starts would.

The new M5/M6 have a similar system and I think it forces you to wait xx(10?) minutes between "launches" just to prevent crazy nuts from destroying the clutch by launching of every stoplight.

ABS is not really the opposite of Launch Control. ABS doesn't necessarily decrease your stopping distance. In fact in most cases, a skilled driver can stop shorter without ABS. All ABS does is allow us less talented drivers room for error by allowing us to stomp on the brake and still have the ability to steer the car somewhat and not just locking up and sliding into whatever you're trying to avoid!

it's not a trick. because of the automated F1 u can't use it like a conventional manual box which u can dump the clutch any rpm u want for maximum acceleration. instead it electronically holds the clutch for the optimal drop to get the quickest run. however, based on my experience it's pretty much useless unless u're really timing the ''0'' to whatever speed. since u have no control or predict the exact time(unlike a traditional manual) when the computer is going to dump the clutch so time will be wasted. if u remember the video sharky posted awhile ago how his TT smoked the 360CS u'll know what i mean. i ran my 360CS with a buddy's TT once at the stoplight when the light turn green he left me few cars behind when i was still standing still waiting for the perfect dump. u get the idea. to master the LC one needs lots practice. the practice will cost money, way more than the traditional manual/clutch job. sure it's fun but i don't really see the point of it except the bragging right.

....

Thanks for all the info. I hope that if I ever use it, the whole thing will not just break down on me. But I guess using it is a long way off for me, don't want to be bothered with repairing it in the first few thousand KMs.
