Good Tool chest

After years of having my tools scattered through various places and random small tool boxes I'm going to finally invest in a nice tool chest.

Not sure exactly what you call it, but one of the two piece types that have a large multidrawer top and a large multidrawer bottom for larger tools and power tools. And all of this on casters.

I want to be able to have it handle all my mechanic oriented tools, sockets, wrenches, etc.. as well as the multitude of hand power tools, impact drivers, drills, cordless screwdrivers I have.

I'm definitely not interested in built in cabinets as I'm not going to be in my current house more than another year.. and I just like the more mobile aspect of something on casters as well.

So what recommendations for something nice?.. One thing I hate are the cheap husky brand stuff you see at home depot. . They have nicer grades that use ball bearing drawer rollers but that stuff is all made out of light gauge metal. I want something that is going to be tank solid and will outlast me..

I'm willing to pay a decent amount to get good stuff.. But when I search on line I see a lot of brands I'm not really familiar with.

Recommendations?

Yeah I'm looking at those as well as Mac ..... It's just a pain in the *** to buy them as it seems easier to buy illegal drugs than deal with the prof tool dealers..

Any easy internet based distributors of snap on or these guys...

I use a Matco box that I've been very happy with. I do prefer Snap-On's hutch design though.

After spending some time researching going to probably go with Extreme Tools.

I don't think it is quite at the same level as the Matco or MACsimizer.. type boxes. But I think it will probably do me well.

The higher end boxes are the best - hands down. But...over on the Garage Journal forums a box that gets pretty high marks for a reasonable price comes from....wait for it...Harbor Freight. Apparently some of the bigger boxes they sell really do have some quality to them. Lista/Matco/Snap-On quality? No. Good everyday, bang for the buck quality - yes. For what it's worth!!

Me? An old Craftsman roller for normal tools. Snap-On box for the metrics for the Mercedes work.

Couldn't justify even a used Snap-On. We got a really sweet Sears unit for under $1000, 14 drawer iirc, 52" wide. Its very nice, we are very happy with it.

Yeah the professional boxes are uber expensive, but really nice. What I'm getting is a 54" Extreme combo which is in the upper end of the midrange. The upper and lower part which gives you a total of 21 drawers works out to a little less than $2000 delivered to my driveway. Probably more than I need but I'm sure I'll be happy with it.

wizness is infamous around these parts
I have a harbor freight box and so far its been great. While it's not as nice as a Snap-on, I only spent 600ish bucks vs 5000. Many high praises of them on garage journal.

I purchased a Gladiator (2 in fact) to hold my ever growing tool collection. Its not as HD as Snap on or Lista, or even Matco but for a weekend warrior it serves its purpose and keeps my space organized.
