As always after you discover new joys, you ask yourself why you haven't done it before, as it isn't such a big deal to do after all.
As my cambersettings were 3,5 front and 2,5 back anyway, the car felt great with those tires.
Even though I had a cup ring&pinion installed and therefore a reduced topspeed, the Viper ringtaxi finally had to give up on the Döttinger straight.

Nice driving.

Can I ask who did the Bilstein upgrade? Black Falcon by chance?

How has it affected the handling balance (on road and track) compared to the standard PASM setup?

Also where did you get the slicks?

Thanks,

Scott

Hi,

I would like to thank you all for your nice comments and answer some of the questions that you had.

The steering wheel is the o.g. Porsche Motorsport wheel by Momo. It is great as you feel so much more connected to the car. However it is a problem to install in the 997. No problem for the 996, but for the 997 we had to custommake the connecting piece between the wheel and the steering column. It was worth it.

TYE is right. That bimmer was gone! Not even saw a glimpse of that car again.

Suspension and tires I got from my workshop that is servicing racecars. As for my Bilstein suspension. To be honest, I would not say that it was a fundamental change as I think that car generally feels great after you have done a trackspecific cambersetup. The reason why I did it is that I was really unhappy with the car in regards of its nose pushing wide, especially on the exits of tighter corners. Also the tire wear on the frontaxle was ridiculous. I was able to get the understeerproblem to an acceptable level, but the tirewear of the front Michelin MSPCs is still too bad to be acceptable for me. That is why I wanted to check out the car with slicks.
Handling of the Bilstein (together with my setup) is perfect to me on the track, acceptable but not neccessary recommendable for streetuse if that is where the car is primerily used.
In general I would not suggest changing the suspension. Spending the money on a good alignment and a few trackdays is a better benefit.

@Markus: Keine Ahnung wer das war. Der war ja so schnell weg...

Gruß

C.

Amazing video!

You seem to know how to drive The car - what kind of times have you done with Pilot Cups, for example a fast BTG time with traffic ?

It would be great to change contact information and meet you at the Ring next year! We have some Ring freaks here in Finland, already 3 guys under 8.00 min (check the signature) - it's really the place to be!

best regards,

Kai

Sorry, I have no timing info on streettires as I only have done 11 laps so far with that car on that track and never checked.
The lap in the video was aprox. 9.40 (3rd of 8 laps). The last lap was a 9.30 which is a 7.49 for the Nordschleife which equates to a 7.24 BTG. My guess is that you have to add aprox. 20 secs for streettires. Those guys with sub8minute laptimes on streettires are fast.
Couldn't read your signature as I do not have enough posts. Need 10 to do that, so sometime soon...

Borrowed some 18" wheels and my workshop put on a set of Hankooks which they had on stock.
Since the rears were 270s they had to use double wheelextensions to not make it look ridicoulous. Worked out fine afterall. See pic.

Thanks for the info.

I've not long had my car. Do you find that you get understeer with the street tyres ? Did any setting up prior to fitting the slicks help?

I will obviously track the car and find out for myself, but the more you know the better!!
