Throttlesteerer, Beautiful footage!! The ring and pinon make's quite a difference. I would have expected the viper to gain more ground accelerating out of the corners. By the way, was that an M5 that passed you at Hocheichen?

Thanks for the post - I can never get enough of Nordschleife!
Rhonda

The steering wheel is the o.g. Porsche Motorsport wheel by Momo. It is great as you feel so much more connected to the car. However it is a problem to install in the 997. No problem for the 996, but for the 997 we had to custommake the connecting piece between the wheel and the steering column. It was worth it.

TYE is right. That bimmer was gone! Not even saw a glimpse of that car again.

Suspension and tires I got from my workshop that is servicing racecars. As for my Bilstein suspension. To be honest, I would not say that it was a fundamental change as I think that car generally feels great after you have done a trackspecific cambersetup. The reason why I did it is that I was really unhappy with the car in regards of its nose pushing wide, especially on the exits of tighter corners. Also the tire wear on the frontaxle was ridiculous. I was able to get the understeerproblem to an acceptable level, but the tirewear of the front Michelin MSPCs is still too bad to be acceptable for me. That is why I wanted to check out the car with slicks.
Handling of the Bilstein (together with my setup) is perfect to me on the track, acceptable but not neccessary recommendable for streetuse if that is where the car is primerily used.
In general I would not suggest changing the suspension. Spending the money on a good alignment and a few trackdays is a better benefit.

@Markus: Keine Ahnung wer das war. Der war ja so schnell weg...

I seriously doubt that as the only car he has been driving in the VLN lately is a white BMW Motorsport Z4M Coupe.

Nice movie Throttlesteerer, how did you manage to drive on the practice of VLN if I may ask? Love that championship btw, was there back in May supporting Richard Göransson in the beforementioned Z4M.

I will obviously track the car and find out for myself, but the more you know the better!!

Yes, I do think understeer is an issue and that the factory recommended track cambersettings do not solve that to the extent that you would like. I would suggest to leave the swaybars alone and go for 3,5front/2,5back.
That will reduce understeer to an acceptable amount and will give you a good ballance in the car. That were the settings that I had, and they work out fine with streettires and whith slicks as well . Not to say that there might be better settings for slicks.

@Rhonda: That was a M3

I'm running around 3 degrees negative all round on my car along with "real" Pilot Sport Cups on the front and the standard N rated Cups on the rear. Understeer is still a problem.

I have just set front toe to neutral and softened the front ARB one notch.

I'd like to keep the suspension standard so if the above doesn't work the next step is to try a wider front tyre.

Throttelsteerer - thanks for all the advice and time and trouble responding.

Hi Scott - an Englishman and down the road!!

What about a bit of toe out at the rear? I'm just begining to understand a little of all of this but we've had that tried on our track day car and it worked a treat!

Any thoughts throttlesteerer?

funny video of guy getting a taxiride on the Nordschleife in a 997Cup

Hi everybody,

I just got this link send to me by a friend.
It's an inboard video of a guy getting a racetaxi ride during the VLN friday practce session from a good driver in a 997 Cup. 1 camera on his face and one on the track. To watch his face and his eyes during the lap is hillarious. Enjoy.
