White 997 GT3 [56K Warning]

I went with a friend to pick up his 997 GT3 on Friday. He had originally been told that his February 08 alocation no longer existed, but then a local doctor traded in a GT3 configured almost exactly as he intended, claiming the "GT3 was too harsh for him and his wife." The doctor got his 997tt, and everyone won. I spent the rest of the weekend pretty much as a silent passenger in the thing, dumbfounded, jaw agape, enjoying every last minute of the drive immensely. I never had the occasion to ride in the 996 GT3, which I am sure is another fantastic car, but the 997 blew me away. It helped that the driver/owner is an ex BMW Club Racer and Grand Am driver, and he was very careful to let the tires warm up before he felt comfortable really letting it loose on a back road, but he had no problem putting his leg down to tear through the gears once we hit the highway.

The thing is viciously fast, and razor sharp in all aspects of driving characteristics. I love the NA power delivery, and the exhaust note is absolute perfection right from the factory. I'll be honest - It took me a minute to warm up to the interior, but by the end of the weekend I was just as smitten by the suede/alcantera/microfiber treatment as I was with the rest of the car. The car is perfect. If I had to find something to criticize it would be that low black front valence that was absolutely trashed from normal driving by the end of the weekend, but it's just a $150 piece so I suspect that he'll be keeping one or two onhand for replacement at will.

12 MB Video

The video is horrible. There was so much wind noise on the highway/rolling shots that I had to layer an MP3 over it, and I was having real problems with my editing machine and as a result it is nowhere near as polished as I would have liked - The transitions are wacky, and the ending is far too abrupt, but I ended up giving up and moving on to the pics:

Thanks guys. Again, this car is not mine, I was just along for the ride when my friend picked it up this weekend. The shots are all from my Canon 20D, with either a 24-70 f/2.8L or a friend's 14mm f/2.8L corrected fisheye.

Beautiful GT3. I have speed yellow but I have a special place in my heart for white in this car. I had white picked and it was a last minute change to yellow. Nice that the belts match the calipers.

Enjoy it and drive that bad boy like it should be, ie. run the **** out of it.

Good luck,
GT3Ranger... Juan
