Significance of GT3 RS colors

I was just wondering if there is any significance to the GT3 RS colors. Orange on black, black on orange, green on black, and silver on orange are all odd colors when you consider they're coming that way straight from the factory. I think they look stunning in any of those colors (especially orange on black), but they're really bold colors. At first I thought they might have been a throwback to the 2.7 RS but from what I saw those cars were mostly white. Any insight?

They're a throwback to popular, retro early 911 colors, not necessarily 1973 2.7RS.

BTW, RS2.7s were offered in virtually every color, white was common, but not unusually so. Most replicas feature white + trim color, and in fact many real RS are repainted white from their original color because they sell better in white (b/c people increasingly feel a real RS should be white).

^True, although I've never heard of concrete data regarding the cars with unoriginal white paint selling for more than their factory configuration. If you count white/red, white/blue, white/green as different colors, the most popular configuration was actually light yellow/black.

Probably not "higher" especially vs. being original, but "easier to sell."

love the existing colors too but they are obviously very limiting. wish they would have had a paint to sample option as well.

They have.

You can get every color you would like with and without stickers at the side.

Look around, even in here are some white GT3 RS's of the newest generation.

I was seven times this year at the Nurburgring and white seems to be the most popular color for the 997 GT3 RS in Europe, if you don't count the different stickers as different colors (there were some only in white, some white with blue, some white with a red and a lot of white with black).

huh? i know you can get the accent colors however you like and it clearly states on porsche's site you can specify carrara white. that's nothing new.

what i mean is that you cannot specify any exterior color you want besides white, black, green, silver, and orange.

The dealer over here had a all white one in stock, it sold in less than a month.

Yes, paint to sample doesn't mean what it used to mean. It is also heavily dependent on the model.

Thanks for the insight guys. Even here around So Cal, most of the 997 GT3's I've seen have been in white. I have also seen more then 4 white RS models.

Hei. Estoril comes from the circuit or from the color?

I've found Signal yellow to be pretty popular on '73 2.7RS's:
