Project Green Turtle: Porsche RS Roll Bar for cars without "euro" plates...

hey folks, figured I'd show you some progress on another green (TURTLE and not ZKERMIT this time) RS. As you know most of the US cars didn't come with the factory plates for the roll bar. It's not too bad to pull the interior apart and on this one we just fabbed our own plates and cut the carpet. I'll have more pix on this one later as we're doing the 997GT3 seats, harnesses, cargraphic mesh screens and the sharkwerks muffler bypass

Out comes the interior:

Here we are mocking it up etc before welding...

There she is welded:

And with the carpet cut around etc..

Hi Luis, the only part that is welded is the plate to the car... There is no cutting of fenders? We cut the carpet as little as possible to make it so that it looks "stock".

On the Euro seats, I wish I had better news for you but the price is just absolutely ridiculous. Porsche upped them from like 8K to 10K and now to 14K?!?! I basically stopped selling them because it's just embarassing.... I'd suggest seeing if Arling maybe has a set left over from before or maybe the cheaper 996GT3 seats? Another option will be the GT2 ones I hope...

I just got a set from Arling and am in the middle of the install. Got one side nearly done. Hardest part is moving (not unbolting) the stock seat out of the car w/o help. I weighed it (nonadaptive) at 57.2 lbs for the passenger side and the carbon GT3 seat weighed in at 24.4 lbs including hardware. The scale is not the most accurate, but weights are likely within 0.5lbs of actual. If the drivers side is the same, which I assume it is, the change saves about 70lbs and obviously more if you have adaptives.

I have heard a set is above $16K now.

LOL glad you noticed that!

On the "plate" it's just so that we can mount the factory rollbar securily because as you said our DOT is more like FOT.

thanks djantlive, the difference is the polished tequipment one is a single piece and sits lower due to the sun roof in normal cars. The RS has no sun roof and has the modular set up.
