Looking for a Transmission

Hey everyone,

I have a 997S that's pretty heavily modded. I'm hoping that a 997 GT3 transmission with the LSD will bolt up. Anyone know? If so, anyone know of where I can find one? Maybe a wrecked car around? I know it's kind of a shot in the dark, but this might be a better option than having the race shop custom build a tranny for me.

Thanks much.

Jared

It will match up. Porsche doesn’t change housing bolt patterns between cars of the same model. Car-parts.com can help direct you to some salvages that can point you out in the right direction if you want to go used. What’s up with your old one? Rebuilding it with different gearing and the lsd would probably coast as much as good used trans with the core charge. Shop around for a better rate if the shop you are using is blowing your mind. Getrag while not a fwd honda, is still a logically engineered piece that a competent mechanic with the specs and some machine dye can rebuild no problem.

Thank you much for that. To aid with your curiousity, and to see if I'm not thinking correctly, here's the situation and my thought train:

The 997S gearing is weird. It needs a 2.5 gear. It was designed not for the track, but to get good 0-60 (only first and second gears). It also doesn't have an LSD (wasn't available at the time of order). So, with a supercharger, I'm lighting up my inside rear AND when I am, I don't have the gear that I feel I need. I haven't had this issue in a GT3, so I thought 'Hey, why not try to find a GT3 setup?' That's essentially it. If I build mine, I will be replacing the LSD, the clutch, and flywheel (both these are needed). Then, I still have the gear issue, which I can change as well. Just thought it might be better to look for the tranny that was ready to go from the start. Does this make sense?

What a site that car-parts.com is! I've never heard of it before. We'll see if anyone gets back to me. I went ahead and also submitted a request for a differential and half shafts from an 87-89 300ZX Turbo to put into my 72 Datsun 240Z with a 2001 S15 Sylvia SR20DET and 6 speed going in...
