should I buy a GT3 or a GT3RS?
should I buy a GT3 or a GT3RS?
This is somewhat of a continuation of my post about what to buy about a couple weeks ago. The other cars are still in the running, I just haven't found the right one and/or the right deal yet, but, I have found a few Porsches that i'm thinking about and I was wondering if you could give me your opinions.
1. 2008 GT3, I can spec it any way I want, and I was thinking about a non-standard color to be a little bit different. it's $10k over MSRP
2. 2007 GT3RS, ceramic brakes, full leather, xenons, chrono and a couple other options, but not many, about a $140k MSRP, he wants $31k over MSRP
3. 2008 GT3RS, ceramic brakes, xenons and a couple more options, very few options.. about a $137 MSRP, he wants about $35k over MSRP
I know people said not to pay over on a regular GT3, but I have been looking and there's not any at MSRP. especially 2008's, and that one I can put as many or as little options as I want on it.
The two RS's are not loaded with options so if I was to put a ton of options on the regular GT3 and pay $10 over, I would be within $25-35k of the RS... So what's a better deal, what's the better car for me? I drive my 997S on the weekend and to the track once a month at best...
Another concern is that in 1 year, or maybe 2 years, will I be sorry I paid that much over for an RS? Or say I get the 2008, of which they are only making 60-ish for the US, will that hold any value?
Or should I just say F it and buy a Z06 (everyone says it's the best bang for the buck) and keep my 997S tip and have the semi-best of both worlds?
Thanks in advance for your opinions!

i say if u worry this much then the best choice will be the Z06. from the $$$ perspective that makes the most sense since u'll be losing least amount of money. however, which will make u happier? that, only u can answer.
same will apply to the options u order. u'll always feel more special if u order the car the way u want it. however, the RS will be a even more special in this case. but if u only value them in $$$ perspective then i can tell u for the total amount u're paying for the RS u should be looking at something else as well. bottomline, get what u like because life is too short to enjoy it!

You have to make your choices, your money and your life but the Z06 at the end is a chevy and not even in the same galaxy as Porsche quality. After 3 years you got what? Porsche after 10 - 15 years you got something. The RS has the single mass flywheel, 44 mm wider rear track and no sunroof (the worst item) over on the GT3. The rest it is the same car. I have a 997 GT3 and I put the lighter RS flywheel, the RS factory roll cage and the RS wing and decklid. In addition Champion Motorsports got for me the GT3 Cup car suspension (all spherical/monoball joints and beefier control arms). The car is a brick and awesomely precise and I love it. Point being, you can make a better GT3 without the big wack of the MSRP mark up. If you can get a GT3 go for it!!! Oh and BTW, I have and strongly recommend the FVD headers and race exhaust with their software. Outrageous sound and massive gains in the mid-range (were you want it). At 4000 rpm's gains of 40 ft/lb torque and 45 hp. All numbers aare measured to the wheels !!. This compared to the dyno run with the car stock. The curve naturallycomes closer to stock at 8000 rpm showing lesser gains. The meat of it all is 3000 to 5000 rpm's. Check the FVD thread presently, GT3 exhaust, and you'll hear my car.

Specifying my own car is important – especially a Porsche – don’t know why that is, maybe it’s the available choices… I would choose the GT3 and customize it exactly the way I want it… Full leather, deviated stitching, etc…
I have a difficult time believing the RS will hold the high price for long. Let’s not forget the history of the GT as compared to the Enzo… in the eyes of a true collector; a Porsche is still a Porsche.

if you have the cash to buy a $170k car, then I say buy the RS. if you dont (I didnt), then get the GT3 for $100k and change. I will be interested to hear what color you pick if you go that route. I desperately wanted to do something different than White, but in the end, found that I didnt really like the other options.
Buy what you like! If a car his me right thats the car I want.I bought an RS because I really loved the way it looked.I owned a ZO6 and also loved that car but its no Porsche. All your choices are good.Good luck.Remember its your money.
