US GT-R slower than '07 GT3 RS?

After reading the latest R/T magazine test of the US GT-R, I'm not sure it's faster than the GT3 RS. Here are the specs from the same magazine:

GT3 RS/GT-R

0-60: 3.9/3.4
0-100: 9.0/8.6
1/4-mile: 12.1@116.6/11.8@116.5
Later accel: 1.04g/1.01g
700 ft slalom: 75.6 mph/73.4 mph

This is more what I expected given the power-to-weight:

GT-R = 3800 lb/480 HP = 7.92 lb/hp
GT3 RS = 3215 lb/415 HP = 7.75 lb/hp

That is, the GT3 RS has a better power-to-weight ratio. The GT-R is slightly faster because of the better traction off the line and possibly a flatter torque curve.

Also note that 60-100 in the GT3 RS is 5.1 vs. 5.2 in the GT-R. That is, although the 0-60 is fast because of 4WD and launch controls, the GT3 RS will likely be the same or faster when starting from 5 or 10 mph.

However, on the road or track, an average driver will likely beat you in the GT-R because it's much easier to drive. Its electronics really help, especially its advanced 4WD system.

Actually, the dyno runs have shown that the GT-R is making closer to 540 horsepower rather than its rated 480 horsepower.

Maybe for that car. 480 sounds more like it given the latest magazine test numbers.

Exactly what I was trying to say about the GTR. Of course its going to be quicker because its easier to drive. Get a good driver in both cars, especially someone that knows how to drive a Porsche and then you will see the real results.

Porsche says 3031. Mags say around 3200. Mags may include the driver's weight. The GT-R was quoted in Car & Driver at 3908.
