Gt3 Engine Failure
Hopefully woodhouse will treat you better than they treated me... Back in the day my Mazdaspeed threw a bearing while under warranty and they being the only Mazdaspeed approved dealer in a three state area I had to get the car towed there.
They treated me like crap, denied the warranty claim, tried to tell me I was going to have to pay them 8k for an engine replacement (other dealers had quoted me 4k), and wouldn't do anything to help me out... ON MY BRAND NEW CAR. F THEM.
Then to add insult to injury i ended up wanting to get a hood for my car painted through them, and them being a Porsche dealer I thought they would do a good job. So i went in, talked to the painter about what I wanted done, GAVE THEM PICTURES of what i wanted done... and 1 week later I went to pic up the car and they had done the EXACT OPPOSITE of what i wanted. They have f-ed up anything and everything I have ever asked of them.
When i purchase my first porsche, it won't be from them, it won't go to them for servicing, and they will never get any business from me or any of my friends ever again.
I hope they help you out, i know you do a lot of business with them so i'm sure they will bend over backwards for you... just know that they aren't exactly on everyones good list...

Blake your post was fine. Since this is the GT3 forum I assume the guy asking about failures was asking about GT3 motors. I think the failure he was referring the 964 based GT1 motor. Lock ups are rare. The common thing is the rear main seal leak. That is quite common. So common we think of it now as the almost free LWF upgrade opportunity. But really that seal gets replaced under warranty and then since the tranny comes out its easy to change the dual mass flywheel to the single mass flywheel and the RS clutch.
And by the way Welcome.
PS I have heard $~45K for a GT3 motor. I know a crate 996 911 motor for the 3.2 liter is about 8K with shipping so you can see the difference in the cost of the motors
thats why I will cry the day they replace the GT1 motor with the wet sump modular motor Porsche puts in the regular 911 line.

Update
When Porsche thought the engine failed, they were prepared to cover the $48,000 motor plus the est. $12,000 installation. It was circumstantial though. Modifications do technically void the warranty.
The engine is fine! The RS flywheel caused my engine failure. The pressure plate was thrashed and loose. It will be up and running soon!
Sharkwerks is sending a new pressure plate at no cost. They have the best customer service out there! They have never heard of such a problem.
Would a loose pressure plate have been caused by installation error or from hard driving?
Would this problem be covered under warranty if it happened to a stock GT3 RS?
Thanks

Good luck. I was under the impression that the LWFW actual did LESS wear and tear to the engine..... Go figure.
Please keep us posted. I don't have a gt3, but I have a gt1 block engine and feel the pain (and a LWFW...).

hey omahagt, so glad it's not the engine! Never heard of a pressure plate failure in these NA motors before. We're obviously dealing with a factory OEM part here so the specs on those are real tight. I did get a chance to talk to your dealership today and they seemed like good people. It could have been installation error? Not sure and hopefully once I get some pix or the piece back we can look at it for you and see. I suppose repeated drag/style launches could do that but that'd be more on a turbo. If that enters the equation I'd suggest the upgraded Sachs 999 pressure plate, which we use on higher hp turbo applications
Either way that PP left this afternoon and you'll have it tomorrow, keep us posted
Not sure if Porsche really warranties clutch items (considered wear) but I know of a few Cayman's that came from the factory with flywheel bolts that were loose!

That's great news (considering the alternative). Your flywheel should not come loose from hard driving. My guess is installation error but there's no way to know for sure.
You've asked about driving the car hard a couple times. Define that? There's a difference between abusing the car and driving it hard, and I assume you're not abusing it (e.g., contantly banging it off the rev limiter, lugging the motor in slow turns driving around town, etc.) The GT3 is designed to be driven hard so you shouldn't be worried about that. That's what separates our cars from the regular 911.

GT3 engine broke
2007 gt3 on track downshifting from 4 missed 3 hit 1 showed 6 turns at 9800. broke the lower pulley. Is it a new motor or safe to look at rebuild! Car has 16,000 miles and a lot of track time last two years. Had expirienced trouble sometimes missing third up and down under different loading. Anyone else have same problem or expirience?
I have a 2007 GT3, track day shifting from 4 to three but got 1. Hit 9,800 for six revolutions. Broke main pulley but limited off track. The decision is whether to buy the new motor or rebuild this one. Have a very good mechanic that wants to rebuild with everything checked and measured. I have had problems with missing third gear in other situations. Is there any history with GT3 transmissions? Will that hurt future resale value? If we rebuild, are there any suggestions for upgrades, lightweight flywheel, etc?
