Finally...RS on the track

Folks-

Just some photos from the last PCA event at Summit Point track (original). At last, the car is broken in. There is a large passenger in one of the photos...Unfortunately, another instructor had a bad accident in the "chute" driving with their student. That GT3 was badly damaged, but apparently not the occupants, thank goodness.

Great track and great event once again, been driving there on and off since 1994...first event for my RS.

Thanks - Gerry

set up

If you have a shop that can corner balance your car, you will be amazed at the difference you will feel by setting up the car to european specs.
Glad to see more guys out on the track with these cars.

Hey Gerry happy to see you enjoy your GT3RS. Has the track (Summit Point) improved any over the last 15 years?
I raced there in the '90's in PCA club racing and also in SCCA.
Frankly the track sucked back then. I had never seen a track in such poor conditions. I was dangerous.

I was there that weekend as well. Saw two RS'es and didn't know one of them is yours. I was in white 996 GT3.

They repaved it last year but it's getting really bad again.

GT3Ranger-

The track was refurbished about 2000, with Turn 10, the site of many accidents, widened and re-cambered. Then 2 other tracks were built on the same site - one we use as instructors for Bill Scott racing to train feds to drive at speed, do J turns, shoot from cars, etc. They are hopeless...

It is a great 'technical track', but without the care and layout of some other great tracks such as Watkins Glen, VIR, Mid-Ohio, Road Atlanta, Road America, etc. - I used to Club race as well, but in a cup car back in the late 90s.

That weekend, I must admit that it was in bad shape - washboard at turn 1 (hairpin at end of long straight) and beat-up in the carousel (turns 6,7 bad).

My worst experience that weekend, besides going off track to miss a stopped car, was to see one of the other instructors going down the chute (turn #4) sideways in a GT3, and then climb up a tire wall on the right side of that turn with the wheels coming off the car. I can post photos if there is interest.

Awesome! I learned with my first track day that I had no idea of the actual capabilities of the RS until I did have it on the track. I hope you found the same, enjoy!

Your RS looks great out there along with the 996 GT3.

Please post the photos of the crash. I am always interested in how these cars handle the damage.

Was your RS at Rockville Porsche a week or two ago for service? I was at the dealership and a orange on black RS with factory cage, euro seats, pccb was pulling up with a tech driving it. Sounded awesome. If so, great looking car, glad to see one in the area!

That is my car. I had to get a track inspection at the last minute, and they were the only folks that had time (!). I have since added some other things (fire extinguisher), and am waiting for some other upgrades from SharkWerks, including their 3.8L engine conversion kit when it is ready...

Thanks - Gerry

Awesome Gerry! Would love to see the car around sometime. There's a local 6speed drive happening this sunday morning starting in Rockville. Check the midatlantic section or PM me if you'd like more details!
