GT3 24,000 mile service

Just in the event anyone else is getting close to making an appointment for their 24,000 service; make certain that your service department knows there is a diffrence between your GT3 and a Boxster!! I made an appointment to have my service done today 10 days ago. When I arrived at 6:45AM this morning it was obvious from the moment I sat down that the service tech had no idea what was going on. I may add at this time that it is 170 miles one way from house to my dealer!!

Apparently when I made the appointment the service tech didn't know that a 24,0000 mile service for the GT3 requires the sparkplugs to be changed and in seems they didn't have any in stock!! WTF!! Fortunately I about 1000 less then 24K. Just a heads up guys. This wasn't a productive day, however it was a nice drive.

BTW, I am pretty excited about Tony's alignment on my car. As some of you may already know I have been averaging right at 3K miles a set for my rear tires, yet after Tony's, of TCdesign, "special" alignment I now have 3488 miles, after todays trip to the dealers, on this set and it appears as if I will get another 1000 miles on top of that!!! The best part is all the miles, with the exception of todays freeway miles, were on back roads. (AKA secret test loop)

So make sure your service dept knows what a 997 GT3 24,000 mile service is!!!!

damn that's a long *** drive for a bonked appointment. roughly costed you ~100 bucks to and fro. they should deduct that from your bill.

Hey Snowboarder.....
OMG!! The first thing I checked was my service manual for my manufacturers recommendation for what service was needed for my car. Also, the day my car arrived (Jan 15, 2007 and yes I think I took the first delivery of the 997GT3 in Southern Cali) before i even gawked and gazed at my car, I went and met the service technician who knows my Gt3 like the palm of his hand, and I formed a great relationship with all Earl, Shawn and Daniel Lewis. They are absolutely phenominal and I wouldn't buy a Porsche from any other dealer in California. I can't believe your experience and you should be respected for the purchase you made (anyone should for that matter). You should be taken care of in an exceptional manner. Don't let this happen to you again. =) I am so appalled! sheesh!

on another note.. I am DYING about your tire longevity. Are you still on the Michelin Pilot Sport Cups? You might want to try the Toyo R888s if you decide to play a little more with your car. It's a dual competition/track/road tire..... Man i am jealous! I have been through 6 sets of tires. Tires are the new jewelry for me (

only six sets? from jan to now, i have chew'd up 9 sets. and by end of august it would be 11 sets. mostly R888 and some hoosiers.

on 997gt3, you can also run RA1 245/305. i like them better than R888. try them.

Mooty,
My new wheels w/hoosiers were delivered last week
I'm going to start cleaning houses to supplement my tire budget.
Everything I look at is relationship to tire cost. Tickets to baseball game = 1 tire lol...... Getting my hair done, 1/2 tire cost. It's freaking crazy! My dream is to have about 4 different sets of tires at the track and just try different ones out..... I don't EVEN want to find out how long my Hoosiers are going to last me. sigh.

Surprised there are no good independent shops near you who could handle this type of work?

If your dealer does not sell many GT3's there is a good chance that they wont know much about the cars as they dont see that many.

Find a good independent shop locally is my best advise.

I have Alex and James, however I need to keep the warranty in good standing, at least until I go 3.8.

That would be Mill Valley, Sonnen, about 105 miles. Not my first choice. Put that may change!
