another CGT bites the dust
That is like giving your kid a loaded gun, everyone knows how tricky these cars are to drive, how many experienced drivers have killed themselves in these cars.
To let a kid drive a car like that is just pure madness!

Here is a thread that every parent should read if tempted to give a powerful car to a kid (or any inexperienced driver). I have an M6 as my daily driver and sometimes go to the M5 Board. One evening a kid logged on...for the first, and last evening..its chilling stuff.

It might just be me but apparently I'm missing something in dad's thought process here. Who would voluntarily turn over a street legal indy car to a kid on prom night? I'm all for, as mentioned, one loaning a high-dollar sedan, but a CGT? Dad might as well kept the insurance company on hold right after he handed over the keys.
There is a good chance that the guy who loaned this car to his kid might end up eating the cost of the repairs.
I have seen quite a few policies that limit who can drive the cars by age, I wouldn't be suprised if there are provisions on the CGT's insurance to not cover damage by anyone under 23 years old.
I am glad that no one was seriously hurt, but I agree with the majority of the posters that it was VERY bad judgement to allow an 18 year old the use of this this car for prom.

It would appear that the adults were acting childish in this case. Hope the driver and/or passengers are o.k., this Carrera GT is probably begging for a new responsible owner anyways!!
Tragedy could happen to anyone, but I think it would be wise not to let any teenager drive on a prom night. I have seen drunk drivers kill innocent people out there, no one knows the answers to this.
The kid was being a "kid". The parent screwed up. As someone said it is like giving the kid a loaded gun.
There was that tragedy in Florida about the 5 kids (18 &19) who were killed joy riding in an M5.
