Shifter: 6GT3 vs 7GT3

Hi

I test drove two GT3's last week - a 2004 996 GT3 and a 2007 997 GT3. What I noticed was the 7 shifter was better than the 6 shifter.

Why was that? What development did Porsche do to the 7GT3?

Can that development be retrofitted to a 6GT3?

Thanks.

They replaced some plastic with metal. I went from the 6GT3 to a B&M SSK to the 7GT3 shifter. Glad I did, smoother more positive shifts without the notchiness of the SSK. Also, replaced the link with the Evo metal piece.

Yes, you're right - I just checked the PET.

However, I think there's an oversight in the PET for the 997GT3 model because it doesn't list the short shifter but a standard 997 one instead. PET lists the following:

996GT3 (Mk2)
part # 986.424.010.03

997GT3
part # 997.424.010.00

987 Caymans/Boxsters, 997 Carreras, and 997 Turbo
part # 997.424.010.00
or
part # 997.424.983.00 (XCZ short shifter)

If the manual Turbo, which had a similar gearbox to the GT3, was available with the optional short shifter, why wasn't the GT3? Because of that, I think the 7GT3 came standard with the XCZ short shifter not the standard 997 one.

Can anyone confirm?
