~~~ IMA Motorsports and 07GT3 TT R&D ~~~
I would like to take this opportunity to introduce myself to you all.
I joined the forum in 2008 to gain some knowledge on GT3 prior to purchasing my first Porsche. With the generous help by a few of the members, I bought my 2007 Slate Grey GT3 with 6,000 miles in July of 2008 and I have never looked back. Since then, I have put over 12,000 street miles on it.
Unfortunately with the demanding practice I have, I only tracked my GT3 once, so far.
I have always been the lurker on this forum, but I finally decided to make a post to share my excitement with you guys.
I know most of you guys are purists and I am putting my flame suit on, as I'm writing this
I have always loved my GT3, because of its tight/responsive handling, suspension, and clutch. Even though the power delivery was linear and strong, I always wanted a brutal acceleration from my GT3.
I have asked a few of the tuners for FI options for the GT3 and all of them turned me away, saying "GET THE Turbo or GT2".
Well, I found out about IMA Motorsports working on twin turbo system on 6GT3 and 7GT3. They have already twin turbo charged C4S and the owner (Berk - never met or talked to him) seemed to be very pleased from the multiple posts on here.
I stopped by at IMA Motorsports on Jan 25th to drop off the car for the 997 GT3 twin turbo set up R&D. I was greeted by Ivan, the owner, and the rest of the staff. The facility was very clean and there were many facinating Pcars at the shop! It takes a great team to operate a high end quality shop and IMA Motorsports definitely has one for sure.
What sealed the deal was one of the guys had the Porsche mountain bike at the shop!!! I love my IBIS Mojo SL mountain bike the Carbon Lefty, but I was drooling at his bike, just because it was made by Porsche
Ivan took his time to explain everything about his master plan on 7GT3 TT. With Ivan's knowledge, experience, and professionalism, I am very confident that this kit will meet my expectations and more.
What impressed me the most was, Ivan was willing to give me a ride back to Silver Spring, Maryland from his shop in Chantilly, Virginia in his 6GT3 TT.
Ivan's 6GT3 power delivery was intoxicating!!! The car just kept pulling! I can't imagine what it would feel like in my 7GT3, but this type of power was exactly what I was looking for. Nice strong acceleration enough to pin me against the seat and make me grin like a little boy in a brand new bike
Well, I'll keep you guys posted on the progress. I'm sure Ivan will also chime in and give this expert opinions on this build.
Thanks for reading and hope that I haven't offended any purists out there
Seung
Look forward to hearing your impressions. What are you expecting after the conversion as far as hp, handling, torque curve. What will happen to your redline?
Don't know about the GT2, but there's no way your turbo-ized GT3 will be anything like a 997TT. I had one. Fast as hell, but heavy, cushy (that could be a good thing at times), but felt a little numb after a few years.
Hope the transformation is everything you're looking for. Keep us informed.
Seung,
Since you have your flame suit on...Are you insane?
Well more power to you! <- pun intended.
Look forward to this thread. Please post photos and specs as you can.
Kush,
I'm not trying to make my GT3 into a Turbo/GT2 beater. I prefer everything to be tight, responsive, raw, and loud. I'm sure Turbo can give me the above feel after some extensive modification, but GT3 already comes like that from the factory. I just need a little more juice...
As far as the final power output, Ivan has given me a conservative and mathmatically safe number. With the drivetrain loss of 15%, we're shooting for about 500 hp at the wheel. I believe the redline will stay the same and the turbos will kick in at 2,000 rpm per Ivan
Again, we're at the very early stage of this development. I'll have Ivan come and shed some light since I'm not an expert in the field of FI.
I'm sure Ivan will take some progress pictures of the TT build. It has not even been a week and I'm missing my GT3 already...
Again, my flame suit is tightly zipped up!
Thumbs up Flame suit on
Sueng
I would not worry too much about the flame suit. You will need to worry about those that you pass with the flames that you will be carrying behind you. Like I told you, not everybody will agree with what you are doing, but I got to tell you that I love driving my 04 with the response that it has now. Nothing has chaged about the car other than it has more torque and the power is just silly.
Thanks for the confidence that you have shown to IMA Motorsport in allowing us to do this for you. You will not be disappointed.
I have known Ivan for years. He knows these cars and how to develop reliable modifications like few others. You will be very pleased with this turbo upgrade.
Thumbs up Thanks
John
Thanks for the nice post about our kits. You need to come out some time and take a spin in my car so you can go home and sell the GT2 and move up to a GT3 turbo. This new deal on the 07 car is going to be *****in.
Lets get together and have lunch soon.
Cool Updates
Guys
Sorry updates have been a bit slow but we have been modeling and drawing up the system with the components in place. That way we can reproduce all the components consistently and maintain good tolerances. I will be posting some pics by Monday to show some of the design work that we have done.
Stay tuned as I think you will like what u see!
Cool Updates
Guys
Thanks for your patience. Just a few pics of drawings for the the system and intercoolers. We have design the headers in such a way that we can use them in any one engine GT3 or M96. The intercoolers will be model specific for GT3 or M96 engine. The sizing of the core is way bigger than need for the low manifold pressure that the system will run initially. Afterwards, if someone wants to lower CR and raise boost the coolers will still work to over 900 without a problem. The water pump will flow more than 20 gals/min making the system very efficient. Radiator will be spec to support the power now and later if upgraded.
We will have parts made this week. I will post some pics as soon as we have some parts done.
Hey, Ivan!
Pics look great! I can't wait until the project is completed and have it in my possession, again.
If your shop were closer to home, I would be there every Monday to help out for free. I can sweep the floor
Thank you for taking care of my car and making sure all the components are well thought out.
Cool More pics
Here are a few pics of the headers mocked up on engine. The flanges are designed to fit gt3 or m96 engines.
Intercooler pics coming soon.
